The trio stopped in a clearing, now facing a small wooden front to a cave opening. The black and gold markings resembled that of a shrine or temple, carved into the dark rock of the natural landscape, covered in moss and twigs. It was a fairly forgotten temple, likely of few remaining followers and even fewer cleaning crews. On the side of the stone temple, Greg ran his hand, lightly clawing away foliage to reveal a faded wolf carving.

"Okay, listen up." Greg said as Izleena readied her bow.

"I'm ready." she said fumbling an arrow nervously.

"Clearly. This is likely one of two gods I know of. We can handle either. Gizzy goes in first, you follow way behind, bow ready. If Gizzy rushes in suddenly, fall back behind cover and don't block the exit, and expect me charging in. If Gizzy reacts in a friendly manner, you can let your guard down, and I'll take perimeter in case we were followed here." He signaled, going to auto as Gizzy waved her along.

"I hate this switching thing." Izleena sighed.

"Yea I find it annoying too." She replied as Greg droned the perimeter.

She gently wiggled the door lever, feeling it was locked, and giving it a slight kick, opening it anyway. They stepped into the dark temple. The sound of heavy breathing echoed through the cavernous void. Gizzy squinted into the darkness, spotting a faint glow of red. She unsheathed her sword only slightly, the sound awakening the darkness and the red glowed brighter. The thin strips of crimson glow surgeded and flared up as the creature's breathing ports burned, and a pair of equally hellish eyes opened.

"How dare you draw a weapon in my temple." Ii growled, humming with energy as it illuminated the room with heat. Izleena's eyes widened as well, but from fear, as a several-ton black wolf rose up and inhaled. It's feet stomped to the ground, bracing and lifting upright on it's rear limbs. It's chest swelled as flames rolled through the slits in it's neck, flexing like plates of armor under the fur. It snapped its claws, triggering some kind of reaction that powered ambient lighting and locked the door. Very classy shit.

"Awe damnit, I can't kill this guy." Gizzy sighed, releasing her sword.

"Why, is he too powerful?" Izleena worried.

"No, he just used to sell me really good weed. We had a brief...thing, don't worry about it. That's Anubis. He's cool." She shrugged, casually approaching.

"You had a thing with the Egyptian God of Death?"

"He's not he god of killing people, he's the god of embalming, preserving the dead, Lord of the underworld, or one of like 20 gods claiming that role. He's probably the god of like 15 other random things like paper or the ground up clay they use in red eye makeup. It's pretty much nonsense." She yawned.

"You had a fling with a giant dog?" Izleena asked.

"Don't make it gross, Leena. He's Osirian just like us, by the time I knew him he had a humanoid form like mine, this is just pre-genetic engineering. I used to be a guy, he used to be a giant wolf. You haven't seen him in one of the newer bodies. It's a game-changer. HEY ANUBIS, ya furry dickhead! What's going on?" Gizzy chuckled.

"Do I know you?" Anubis asked, perking his canine ears up.

"Well kinda. We...we had an awkward afternoon way back like 20 thousand years from now." Gizzy smiled.

"Not this again." He sighed, rubbing his snout in annoyance. "This is the fifth time I've been greeted by someone traveling time, assuming none of them were just drunk or insane." He grumbled, standing down and pulling up a stone chair.
