Part 1 • The Royal Ball

She let her fingers trace the side of the book's leather cover, smiling at the colorful words written on the old paper.

The sun shone brightly from outside the window, glimmering brightly as she moved her petite fingers and turned to the next page.

"So, have you asked someone to go with you to the next royal ball, my dear sister?"

That usual smugness in her tone sunk deep into Agatha's skin as soon as her ears heard it. She breathed in to calm herself before her mouth could say something she would regret.

What a brilliant way to start a conversation.

And of course, she's gushing about the royal ball their father holds in the grand palace every end of the month. Again.

"I have asked no one. Nothing new about that," she shifted on her seat, bringing her light blue eyes back on the book she's reading.

Winnie sighed loudly from the other side of the room, frowning at her older sister.

She made her way towards Agatha, sitting beside her sister with a concerned look on her face.

"You and I both know that Father doesn't like it when you choose to lock yourself in your room during the royal ball."

The royal ball is held every end of the month for all the good people of Wonderland, but Agatha preferred to read her books instead of dancing the night away with the townsfolk.

She fixated her eyes on the book's page. "I don't want to go. And I don't have someone to go with me. End of discussion."

Winnie's brows snapped together. "What do you mean 'you don't have someone to go with you'? Our friends are literally right over there when we need them to be, that is so rude," she chuckled.

Agatha closed her book shut with one move of her hand before placing it gently on her lap. Then she gave her sister a playful smirk.

"Let's see here," she cleared her throat.

"The Necromancer is taking care of his visions with Neil, as always. Hatter is always roaming around the town, being the kingdom's usual dork, so I can't ask him," she counted with her fingers.

Agatha took the time to pause, raising a suggestive brow at her sister.

"I know you've already asked the Engineer,-"

"How did you know I invited the Engineer to the ball with me tonight?" Winnie lifted a brow.

"Did you really think I couldn't see all those letters you've sent to each other?" Agatha smirked, and that alone was enough to make Winnie's face burn as red as her hair.

"I can't hide anything from you, can I?" The red head huffed, crossing her arms with a frown.

"It has something to do with your talent for making things obvious," Agatha laughed as her sister rolled her eyes in defeat.

Then came two loud knocks at the wooden door.

"Your Highnesses," a deep voice spoke from outside the room, prompting the two royal sisters to straighten up their postures.
