The Secret Riddle

4: Afraid

I wake up and it's a Monday morning and gloomy out. I go put on my skirt, shirt, jumper, cloak, socks and shoes. I braid my hair in two French braids and go down to the common room. I step inside and look around. I spot Fred and George. I walk over and flick their ears. "Morning kiddies" I said. "Morning Aspen" said Fred and George. I smile at them and hug them. 

We walk down to the Great Hall and we sit down. "Hey twins, Aspen" said Charlie, sitting across from us. I smile at him. "Charlie, what's up with you?" asked Fred. "Mum wrote, annoyed that I have a plan to go to Romania when I graduate" said Charlie. "Yeah, she would worry about that" said George. I glance at them. "What's in Romania?" I ask, looking between them. "A dragon reserve" said Charlie. "Oh yeah, I heard of that one" I said. Charlie smiles, nodding. I smile back. 

I grab some porridge and dig in. Bill walks inside and sits beside Charlie. "Hey twins, Charlie, Aspen" said Bill. We say hi. "So, I assume Charlie told you about the reserve in Romania" said Bill. We nod. "Yeah, he did." said George. I look away and notice Snape is watching me again. I know who he works for, Dumbledore. Snape taught me how to hide my thoughts. He magic's a note to me.

Aspen,

Are you OK? I'm sorry I haven't checked on you when you started school. I hope your being safe. Do not tell anyone about your father. Your my goddaughter, be safe. #

I nod to him and he nods back. I stand up. "I better head to class" I said, grabbing my bag and leaving. I go to the class and sit down. Charlie walks inside and looks at me. He walks over and sits beside me. "Hey, Aspen" said Charlie. "Hey" I said. I take out paper, my quill and wand. I look around and everyone's here. Snape walks inside and looks around. 

We begin to make potions and I sigh. I'm not really good at potions. Once it finishes, I leave. "Aspen! Wait" said Charlie. I stop and watch him walk to me. "Hey, was just wondering if your doing anything this weekend? Bill wants prefects to get to know each other better" said Charlie. "Oh right" I said. "So, maybe we can hang around the grounds and get to know each other better" said Charlie, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sure" I said. 

Eventually it's lunch and I go to the Great Hall and settle down. Fred and George walk over to me and sit down. "How was your morning classes?" asked George. "Boring, as usual" I said, smiling a bit at their faces. I notice Charlie walk inside with Lucy, the popular girl. Their holding hands. I sigh and look away. I take a bite of my sandwich and look anywhere but Charlie. 

Bill walks over to me and sits beside me. "I know you like Charlie" said Bill. I blush and look at him. "I do. He would never like me though" I said, sighing. "I'm sorry but maybe it will happen, you'll never know" said Bill. I shrug and look away.

I go back to classes and settle down. I rub my face and look at my fingers. Once I finish my classes, I go to the library and do my homework. I sit down and rub my face. I go down for dinner and then I go to my common room. I read a book I bought. I go get changed and put on my pyjama's. Lucy and Mallory are talking. "Me and Charlie are just casual, but maybe we won't be for long. Official by Halloween, Christmas the latest" said Lucy. "You'd make cute babies" said Mallory. I close my curtains and lie down. I instantly fall asleep and hope to forget about this.
