It was 9am Sunday morning. Janet felt something slap her awake, she peered through her tired eyes and saw Riley looming over her, tiny hands in the air. "Am I some sort of roadkill that your pecking at, why am I awake?" Janet mumbled agitated, her Boston accent strong, she had a hangover from her usual drinking match with Katrina the night before. "Tan I have the dino nuggies?" Riley asked excitedly. "NO! We don't have dino nuggies." Janet replied. "Pweeeeaaaase" "NO Riley! I can't magic them up for you, you can just have cereal, dino nuggies aren't breakfast food anyway." "Otay, fine!" Riley rolled her eyes in response.
Some time later, after Riley had finally decided to eat her cereal and Janet had opened her first bottle of wine for the day, they were ready to go to day-care. "Riley! Hurry up, we're going to be late!... unless you don't want to see Misha and Sergei at day-care." "Otay, wait, I'm coming! Will Katrina be there?" Riley asked with a taunting smirk, she may only be 4 but she is really perceptive and she knows Katrina is in love with her mum. "Yes? What was that smirk for?" "Ohhh... nuffing." Riley replies, barely holding back a mischievous laugh. Janet looks at her daughter confused and sighs, this would be another long day of putting up with her little spawn of Satan, she loved her to bits though.
Janet pulled up to day-care in her black jeep, she sighed as she stepped out of the car, Riley had insisted on listening to the frozen theme tune the whole journey. 'Couldn't she just like another movie?' Janet thought as she opened the door for Riley to hop out. Riley raced into the meeting, they were already late.
"Hello everyone, welcome to mommy toddler day-care, how has everyone been? Janet you're late." Amy, the day-care lady said in a soft tone, she never raised her voice around the kidlets as she calls them. "I know, I know." Janet scanned the room with a confused look, someone was missing. "Where's Katrina?" "Oh, she should be here any minute, she said a message that she'd be late... had to sort some emotional business or something.. she sounded drunk but I didn't confront her." Amy replies. "Oh." 'I wonder what that's about' Janet thought, Katrina repressed emotions and NEVER got noticeably drunk, even though she drinks vodka instead of water. "Anyway, how is everyone? Buddy and Texas have joined a scout team." Carol interrupts in her somewhat cheerful Southern accent. "I had to speak to another manager today, I-" A sudden burst through the door interrupts Karen talking about her recent manager encounters.
Katrina comes through the door, singing the Russian anthem at the top of her lungs. She stumbles over to the circle of parents and toddlers, clearly drunk off her face. Misha and Sergei shuffle behind her, clearly looking concerned after their mother drove them to day-care while drunk, almost running over several pedestrians on her way. "I tried wine today!" Katrina bellows across the room, "It's absolutely vile!" she giggles stupidly while stumbling over a tiny lime green chair made for toddlers, wine bottle in one hand. "Katrina, I've had this conversation with Janet many times, what did we say about alcohol in here?" Amy says, trying not to get too agitated around the children. "Oh shut up comrade.." Katrina says with a goofy smile, placing a drunken hand on Amy's mouth to silence her. Janet interrupts, clearly confused about Katrina's state, "Katrina you hate wine, you only drink vodka, you'd put a knife to anyone's throat who dared give you any other drink. How many bottles have you had?" "This is number 10! I think I am in love!" She slurs. "You're in love with wine, yeah you've definitely drunk too mu-" Katrina quickly silences her placing a finger over Janet's mouth, "NO! I hate wine! I am in love with y-".
As she says this, Riley, Misha and Sergei all look at Katrina, their little mouths wide open. Was she really going to confess? "Okay let's go", Janet quickly interrupts Katrina before she says anything else she'll regret later. "Riley, you stay here with Misha and Sergei. Boys, I'll take your mom to my house and sober her up, I'll pick you up after day-care." "Otay." They all reply in harmony. "Ooooh, we're going to your house are we?" Katrina smirks, giggling as Janet hooks her arm, dragging her out of the day-care. Janet looks shocked, appalled at how drunk Katrina has let herself get, "You're an idiot, you know that."
