"Mom, when can I see Misha and Sergei. It's been forever!" Riley pleaded with her Mum. It had been 2 weeks since Riley had seen the boys or Katrina, Katrina had been ignoring Janet's messages. "I don't know Riley, I'll have to ask Katrina." Janet replies, "That's if she ever talks to me again." She muttered under her breath. "PWEEEAAASSE!" "Look Riley, I'm trying! It's not my fault Katrina won't talk to me! If she won't reply to my texts, how are we supposed to meet up!?" Janet snapped, not realising how much frustration she had bottled up. "Sorry Riley, I shouldn't have snapped. I'll see if Katrina will let you go and see the boys. If she doesn't want to see me that's fine." Janet says, more softly this time.

"Otay!" Riley says excitedly and continues speaking, "Katrina will want to see you though. If she's still in love with you, she's not going to ignore you." Riley blurts out. "What? Who told you that? Were you eavesdropping again?" Janet looks confusedly at her daughter, "besides, she's not in love with me anyway... we were drunk!" Riley rolls her eyes in response. "You're dumb! It's so obvious! Katrina has been in love with you since forever! She accidently spilled the tea on it one time when I was at her house!" Riley may have only been 4 but she noticed Katrina's feelings very quickly, it was a mystery to her how her mother was so oblivious. Janet looked at Riley, unamused, "firstly don't call me dumb. Secondly, Katrina's not in love- well maybe she is, I don't know Riley." Janet sighs. At first she thought Katrina wasn't serious, she was drunk after all... but now that she's ignoring her messages, maybe she was serious? "Otay, whatever." Riley replies and runs off to play with her toys.

'Is Katrina in love with me? No, she couldn't be, right? I mean, it certainly seems that way? Toddlers certainly don't lie... well they do, but not about stuff like this.' Janet's mind filled with thoughts, she argued back and forth with herself until she remembered about texting Katrina.

Janet: Hey Katrina. I was wondering if Riley could come over and see the twins later today? She really misses them. I can leave if you don't want me there. Thanks.

"There, sent!" Janet mumbled, she was expecting Katrina to ignore once again but instantly her phone pinged as a message came through.

Katrina had been sitting alone, downing vodka glass after glass to forget about Janet. It didn't work. It never did.

While sitting, another message came through her phone from Janet. She had received several messages since the last time the two women met, but she refused to reply to any of them. She rolled her eyes, not wanting to read it, she decided to anyway. As she read the message, she realised her actions weren't just affecting her and Janet's friendship but the children as well. She quickly responded and agreed for the children to meet up. Janet also quickly replied and asked about her coming around as well. Katrina hesitated for a moment, she knew it would be awkward, and she was still really angry. But could she really sacrifice the best friendship she had had since moving to Canada, just because she had stupidly fallen in love with her? No, she would invite Janet around as well. "Well shit, this will be awkward." Katrina murmured out loud.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Katrina: Sure Janet, come around 4pm. The twins have been asking for Riley as well.

Janet: Ok, no problem. What about me though?

Katrina: Janet do not be stupid. I'll see you then.

Janet: ok

------------------------------------------------------------------

Janet looked confused at the messages, but sighed a huge sigh of relief. Maybe she could still be friends with Katrina. Somehow.

"Riley! Hurry up and get ready! We're going to Katrina's in 2 hours!" Janet shouts. Riley runs in excited, finding her mum smiling like a goofy dog. "Otay! I can't wait to see the twins! You look like you're excited too." Riley smirks. "Oh shut up. Go get ready." Janet replies, still smiling though.

'Why am I so excited?' Janet thought to herself. 'It's not like I've never been to Katrina's before, I mean I know we haven't spoken in a while bu-' Janet's thoughts are interrupted as she notices Riley still standing staring at her, she hadn't went to get ready like she was told to.

Riley notices her Janet staring into space, "I know you're in love with Katrina too." Riley says quickly and rushes off to her room before her mum can reply. Janet shouts back, "No I'm not!" 'Am I? No!' Janet thinks to herself, before going to get dressed and ready to leave.

Denial. It's a person who somewhere deep inside themselves, knows that the are lying to themselves.
