Janet awoke the next day to a strange room, it was still pitch black at the window as Janet glanced around, noticing the blackout curtains. A dull ache pounded through her head, why did she always have to get hungover? She thought to herself, still not noticing she wasn't at home. Janet finally realised after staring confusedly around her that she was in Katrina's house, "Oh right, that makes sense." She murmured to herself, "Wait what? Why am I in Katrina's bed? Where's Katrina? Shit!" She exclaimed quietly as all the memories from the night before came flooding back. Janet wondered what else had happened... how did she end up here? Did her and Katrina do anything? No, surely not. Janet glanced down at her clothes, she was still wearing her jeans and shirt from the night before, "Ok, so we didn't then. Thank goodness, well this will be awkward. Where's Katrina?" Janet whispered to herself.
Janet walked out of the bedroom into Katrina's kitchen. She found Katrina and the boys sitting eating breakfast. "Morning Janet." Katrina said, smiling awkwardly. "Hey Katrina." Janet replied very quietly. Suddenly Janet remembered looking at the boys that she had a child. "Shit! I forgot about Riley! Chad is going to be so annoyed. I have to g-" "No worries, I told Chad to watch Riley till noon, I was actually going to go get her." Katrina interrupts. "Oh ok, thanks Katrina. I can get her now though." Janet replies, making her way to the door. "Da, ok" Katrina says quietly, "See you later then." Katrina replies abruptly, watching Janet head for the door. Janet hears an almost sad tone in Katrina's voice, she knew she should stay at least for a minute.
"Actually, it's only 11am, I'll wait a minute. I'm sure Chad is capable of looking after my little headache." Janet laughs and goes to join them in the kitchen. Katrina laughs in response, Chad would have his hands full. "Do you want any breakfast? Might help your hangover." Katrina points out, she hadn't wanted to mention the night before but she was sure it would come up. "Yeah sure. My head is throbbing, that was a rough night." Katrina laughs once again, not sure how to respond. An awkward silence filled the room as they all sat eating breakfast. Misha and Sergei looked oddly at the two women, and decided to go play in their room, leaving the two sitting in silence.
15 minutes of silence passed by, both women looking at their bowls, avoiding each other's gaze. "Janet, how are we going to stay friends if we can barely talk to each other?" Katrina finally abruptly stated, breaking the silence. Janet sighed, "I don't know." Janet replied weakly, barely a whisper.
After a few seconds, Janet spoke again, this time appearing more confident, "I mean, it didn't mean anything, we were both drunk. The day at the day-care centre, you were drunk. Last night, I was really drunk, and you were your normal level of drunk. It's not serious! We've never taken our drunk selves seriously before... so why now!?" "Da. I guess your right." Katrina replied, sounding a lot less serious. She felt defeated but kept a serious face so that Janet wouldn't know. "Anyways, I should go get Riley now. I'll see you later." Janet says as she leaves through the door. Katrina barely responds, just a whispered "Da" as the click of the door closing is heard. Her eyes already glistening.
Katrina slumped against the door, curled up with her hands covering her face. "I'm such an idiot!" She shouted, slamming her fist against the door, forgetting the kids were home. Misha and Sergei ran out of their room with confused faces, "Mother? Are you otay?" Both questioned as they saw their mother crying. Katrina looked up, "Oh, uh yeah. I've just been watching a lot of American cinema lately. It's sad some of it." 'What a stupid excuse!' Katrina thought, telling herself off. "Um... otay!?" Misha replies. "Now go fetch me some vodka!" Katrina commands, although more softly than usual, she knew her boys cared but she didn't like showing any emotions.
Sergei returned with a bottle of vodka, barely able to carry it in his tiny hands, while Misha carried a glass. "Here you go Mum." "Thank you, now go play!" The two twins shuffle off to their room to practice chess, leaving their mum still on the floor, downing her vodka with a sad frown painted on her face.
