"Baby? Are you home?" You heard Sana yell out as she closed the front door behind her with her foot and a heavy sigh.
She felt a little sore and tired after her busy day in practice, but the thought of finally be home with you cheered her right up.
"I'm upstairs!" You yelled back to her and, right away, you heard her footsteps on the stairs.
She was running up them as fast as she could. She wanted to get to you as quickly as possible. She was in desperate need of a comforting hug from you.
You threw your shirt into the bag on the bed, pulling more off the hangers as she reached the bedroom. She froze in the doorway, catching her breath from running up here so fast.
"What's that?" She asked, nodding to the bags on the bed and floor. "What are you packing for?"
You walked to the bed, tossing some more clothes into the bag. She frowned at you as your eyes locked across the room.
"I'm leaving, Sana."
"Leaving? Where are you going?"
The thought of you leaving for good didn't even come to mind. She instantly thought you were packing and leaving for a trip. Maybe to go on a vacation with friends or to go visit your family.
Never would it occur to her that you were leaving for any other reason.
"I don't know yet."
"Oh." She mumbled quietly. "You'll be back when?"
"Never."
Her heart sank over your one-word response. She never thought that one word could hurt so deeply. She didn't know it could cause a wave of panic to flood over her or cause her mind to race more than ever.
"What do you mean? You have to come back. This is our home."
The words weren't falling from her lips in a rush. Her voice wasn't shaking. Tears weren't filling her eyes just yet. It all felt so strange to her. None of it made sense. She thought she misheard you. Surely, you'd come back.
Because... why wouldn't you?
"Not anymore." You sighed. "I think we should break up."
That, right there, was when her world began to spin out of control.
"What? Why?" She asked, her breath hitching in her throat as her heart began to pound against her chest.
"I just think we need some time apart."
"That's ridiculous!"
She yelled and tangled her fingers in her hair.
"Why would we need time apart? I can't even remember the last time we argued with each other! We've been so happy. Last night we were laying in bed, talking about the future together. About all the things we want to do together. You were pouring your heart out to me, telling me about your hopes and dreams of what you wanted to do with me. Only me. That's what you said. Remember?"
You hung your head and tried to think of what to say, but you were beginning to break as she began to panic.
"I can't lose you. I need you. I love you." She spoke, her voice shaking, like her hands. "I can't picture ever loving anyone but you. I can't imagine waking up without you by my side. I can't imagine ever being happy again if you weren't with me."
Your heart broke as you watched her tears start to fall.
"Please don't go. Please."
She was begging.
You couldn't go on like this. You couldn't stand there, knowing that it was all just a prank as she fell apart right there in front of you, pleading with her entire being for you to stay.
"Oh, baby." You walked to her and pulled her into your arms.
She held you tighter than ever before, so afraid that this was the last time she'd ever hold you again. The last time she'd feel your heartbeat against her chest and be able to cry on your shoulder when she needs to.
Because you're her safe place. You're the one to always make everything better.
She couldn't lose you.
She just couldn't.
"I'm not going anywhere. I promise."
She sniffled against your neck.
"It was just a prank."
Her breath hitched and she became tense instantly. She pulled away, staring at you in disbelief.
"I know it was stupid. I'm sorry."
"You scared me so badly!" She mumbled through her tears. "I can't believe you!"
"I'm so sorry, Sana."
She sighed and let out a shaky breath, holding your hand tighter.
"I swear that it was just a prank. I love you more than anything in this world."
"I love you too." She said, the words falling from her lips instinctively. "Promise me that you won't ever play a prank on me like that again? It hurt me."
"I swear, baby. I'm truly sorry."
She moved back into your arms, her cheek falling against your shoulder.
"You're lucky that I love you too much to stay mad at you."
You chuckled through your own tears, feeling your heart swell with love for her.
"Very lucky. I'm the luckiest girl in the world, Sana. I love you."
She just held you a little tighter, closing her eyes as she took a deep breath and let herself relax.
"I promise you, right here and right now, that I'm not going anywhere. I won't let you go."
She smiled a little to herself, thankful for you saying that. Because she didn't want to let you go, either; not ever.
