I can't believe she's here. It's....it's the best surprise I could possibly ask for.
After I set her back on her feet I hold her at arm's length and give her a once over before looking back into those beautiful green eyes.
"You look different." I say to her and she raises her eyebrows at me suspiciously.
"Well yeah, dull arse, it's been five years. I don't even think I had boobs last time you saw me."
I have to throw my head back and laugh out loud at her sarcastic and insolent tone. She really hasn't changed a bit. As soon as I stop laughing I pull her back into a hug that's so tight she has to slap my back to get me to back off a bit. I chuckle and kiss the top of her head before releasing her.
"What are you doing here?"
"I saw this uniform in a shop window and thought, wow that looks really hot, I'm going to buy it and then go and stalk down Cammie just so he can see me in it and, low and behold, apparently everyone has exactly the same taste as me here!"
"Put those blasted eyebrows down Annie, it was a sensible question."
"Not really." She snorts at me.
"When did you get here?"
"A couple of days ago. What about you? Last I heard you were....well, you weren't in California."
"Ha, no babe, I was in Massachusetts. Mom's new husband, Rick, he lives here so we came here with him."
"Oh." Yes, I know, sore subject.
"Sit Annie; let me introduce you to everyone." I turn her around to our table, but first she makes eye contact with Devan Anderson and she smirks and mumbles something under her breath. What the hell is she doing, trying to start something with the elites? Not even I'm stupid enough to do that! I make a mental note to talk her through who they are later.
"Annie, this is Brian, Greg, Logan and Kade," I say, pointing to my best mates, "and Susannah, Joanne, Kayleigh and Helen." To the cheerleaders who consistently throw themselves at us. The guys all smile and say hi and the girls look put out. They'd better not start anything with her or they'll have me to answer to.
Annie turns to me and eyes me up quizzically.
"You play American football?"
"It's just football here Annie. And football is soccer, remember?"
"Shit, yeah. I need to remember that." She turns back to the table and I wonder how much she's changed. Will she be intimidated by sitting here? "So is one of you guys going to budge up or am I going to have to sit on the floor?" She asks with a face of upmost sincerity and I burst out laughing. She really is exactly the same.
"Sorry," Logan says and moves up on the bench so she can sit on the end. I head and pick up a spare chair from a nearby table and come back, putting it next to her. She starts eating a salad and I laugh.
"What the hell is that?"
"A salad?"
"What's wrong? Think you're fat?" Helen and Susannah gasp and Joanne and Kayleigh snicker to each other. Bitches.
"No, Cammie, I don't think I'm fat, thank you very bloody much," She darts a confused look at Kayleigh who is giggling to herself now, "I just wasn't hungry when I ordered."
"And now?"
"I'm famished."
"Haha, that's my girl. I'll go get you something." And I head up to the queue to pick something more substantial up for her.
