I woke up to the smell of my dormitory, under the thick sheets of my bed. The sun was peeking through the drawn curtains of our room. I let out a huge yawn and got up. My long dark blonde hair was tangled and messy. Everyone else seemed to be awake already, and changing into their uniforms. I started out by brushing my hair and threw it up in a high ponytail, then I had to get dressed quickly, as it was breakfast time soon. I walked down into the common room with my friends, then headed down to the great hall. I felt really hungry so I got myself a full English breakfast - with extra bacon and no black pudding or mushrooms. Yes, I'm kind of a picky eater to be honest. I washed it all down with a huge glass of orange juice. After that, we were handed pieces of paper with our timetables on - I saw that my first lesson today was Defence against the Dark Arts, we also had Potions before lunch, and then it was History of Magic, and Transfiguration. I was so excited to try out all the classes!

The first one was Defence against the Dark Arts - taught by a tall middle aged teacher. It was quite a fun introduction to the subject - the class went well and was all about different types of dark arts and what to do against them. Not in detail, however, because that would take ages. At about 10:30 in the morning, the class ended and we went down into the dungeons for Potions.

The dungeons were not a very nice place to be. It was very dark and sligthtly damp down there. But our teacher - Professor Slughorn was OK. Another thing was that Tom was in our class. Professor Slughorn took the register and we started work. He asked us, about half way through class "Now have any of you been reading your textbooks? Do any of you know where you'd find a bezoar?" To my surprise, Tom put his hand straight up. "Yes?" said professor Slughorn. "The stomach of a goat, sir." replied Tom in a polite, quiet way. "Well Done! Sorry, didn't catch your name..."

"Tom Riddle, sir."

"Then very well done Tom - five points to Slytherin!"

Something was off, this definitely wasn't the Tom I knew. The Tom I knew wasn't a know-it-all, but an evil boy. I don't think he wanted to show it - I have no idea why.

So that was potions, and when it was done we went up for lunch. After I had finished up eating I went out to explore the grounds with Mary and Liza. There were many trees and plants there, some of the species I hadn't ever seen before. We also actually got a feel for how big the castle really was - when walking around its walls. However there wasn't that much time to go until History of Magic. It was taught by a teacher called Professor Binns. This class was not as nearly as exciting as the two before: the teacher didn't really say hello to us - he just took the register and started droning on from a huge collection of notes he had on his desk. I think I almost fell asleep. A long and hard 1 and a half hours later, we could finally leave for Transfiguration.

I was pretty excited for Transfiguration - on my timetable it said the class was with Professor Dumbledore - who I'd sort of taken a liking to. The class was on the third floor and today, we were learning a very simple lesson: how to change a match into a needle. Well, I thought it was simple until I actually started trying it. It ended up taking me half an hour - but I finally got there and felt pretty proud of myself. Tom was there too and he had done his in under 10 minutes. Dumbledore did not congratulate him - maybe it was because he had done it so quietly, or maybe (probably) it was because he knew what Tom had done in the orphanage. However he congratulated me for it, and also a few others in the class.

I ended my day, feeling as if this was the start of something knew, I guess, because it was. At 5PM I went back up to the common room and read some of my textbooks. I ate a couple of leftover chocolate frogs I had from the Hogwarts express. At 7PM, I went for dinner, then I went back out for a night time walk, I really love the grounds. I also caught a glimpse of the greenhouses - I knew we had Herbology tomorrow so I was excited for that. When it started getting cold, at about 9, I came in to see my friends and get ready for bed. Well, I've survived one day now, and I'm loving it.
