⚠️TW: Blood, brief mentions of grotesque scenes.⚠️
You decided to go to the Walmart. After all, the event had just started, so it couldn't be too bad, right? Just in case, you searched your closet in your bedroom for some type of weapon. You found an old baseball bat, which was perfect enough for a quick visit.

You jumped into your car, turning it on, and revving up the engine. Your car was a nice black Toyota, that you were gifted from your parents after you moved out. It was getting older now, and it didn't work quite the best in the beginning, but it still drove smoothly.

The roads were silent. Barely any cars passed, maybe one or two, making your once thriving town seem ghostly. You shivered at the sight of a house being boarded up for extra precautions, it's eerie presence reminding you of the situation you were in. You entered the empty parking lot of Walmart, and gasped at the sight.

The Walmart looked abandoned, almost as if they had been preparing for this apocalypse and immediately shut everything down. You parked as close to the building as possible, getting out of your car and testing the doors. It was unlocked. You were lucky.

You opened the doors, silently and quietly, noticing that the lights were off. The Walmart smelled vile, whether it be from the already rotting food or the presence of those creatures. You remained silent and alert, but also scared and anxious. At the front of the Walmart they had reusable bags, you grabbed them immediately.

You entered an aisle filled with canned goods, throwing them in the bag. You didn't even care what you picked out, as long as it was edible. You also threw in some sweets as well. Next, was the water supply. You found an aisle filled with water bottles and packaged drinks, however, it would be too heavy to carry. You decided to make a second stop.

As you were leaving the aisle, you heard light shuffling. You paused your walking, grabbing your bat and getting ready to swing if needed. However, as you looked over at the shuffling noise, you found it to be a woman. She was ruffling through her bag, causing the shuffling sound.

"Hello?" You said, quietly.

The woman stopped her ruffling and turned to look at you. She was around her 40s maybe, and she looked absolutely exhausted and scared.

"Oh, hi. You scared me." She chuckled, coming towards you.

"Sorry, do you live by here?" You questioned, finding her face rather unfamiliar.

"Oh, no... I was traveling when I heard on the radio about this apocalypse. I saw this empty Walmart and decided it would be best to stop here to get something." She gave you a polite smile.

"Well if you need anywhere to stay, let me know." You gave her a smile back, trying to be kind.

"I'll be alright, dear. My stop is pretty close. However, I must warn you." She suddenly got serious, "The guns have been broken into, meaning someone was here before. Please stay alert. Also, do not, and I mean this, do not go into aisle 12. Someone in there.... they're dead."

The woman shook her head, and you pitied her. She looked like she had seen everything from this miserable Walmart.

"Thank you." You decided to end the conversation there, and walked towards the gun aisle.

On the way, you passed by aisle 12. You did not look at the body, but you could smell the flesh rotting and hear the bugs buzzing. You could also see the light drops of blood leaking from the dead body that had spread too far from the body. Something must have dragged the blood across the floor, but you didn't know what that something was. You felt like gagging.

Eventually, you got to the guns, and the woman was right. The glass that once protected the guns from getting into the wrong hands had been shattered, glass was everywhere. A few guns had already been taken, but you picked up two snipers and some ammo. Just around the gun aisle was medical supplies. You made sure to grab a bunch of equipment from there.

You wanted to go back to your car and deposit what you had so far, then, you would come back for the water. You rushed to complete this task, you really wanted to go home. You were glad nothing bad has happened to you so far, but you didn't want to push your luck. After putting the goods into your car, you ran in to grab two cases of water. You once again passed the woman from before who gave you a wave, and you gave her a smile. When you reached your car for the last time, you threw your water in and got in quickly.

You drove home with the radio on, trying to distract yourself from the events occurring outside. Of course, you flipped to the news channel every so often, but there were no mentions of the apocalypse. No one knew what was happening.

When you reached your flat, you grabbed your items and brought them inside. You had been lucky to not have been harmed, but your luck wouldn't be constant. You needed to be careful and pay attention, because things were only beginning.
