Life had been kind to Dina Farooqi and Yaseen Hamidi, it had been five years since they had gotten married and there was so much they had achieved together.
Yaseen and Dina had shifted out of the country that had birthed them and built a home in Prague. Yaseen worked at a well flourishing MNC and Dina was an art gallery owner. Both of them were still immensely in love and shared a duckling whom they had named very lovingly; zarda.
(a/n- zarda is traditionally served on special occasions, this brightly colored sweet rice is a Pakistani favorite. It is usually found yellow in colour)
Yaseen had wanted a hamster, but Dina refused to oblige and said, "mujhe chuhe paalne hote to mein pakistan mein hi nahi rehti?"
(If I had to raise rats, I would've stayed in Pakistan itself)
Nevertheless life was good. Both of them were beyond happy and successful apart from their routinely pointless banters of nonsense. After they confessed their love for each other, Yaseen and Dina revealed to their family that they had secretly gotten married. Their family's reaction was nothing short of being chaotic. While, Dina's elder brother threatened to strangle Yaseen. Dina's mother was elated. She was more than happy to have her darling nephew as her son-in-law. Well, Yaseen's family had already expected this somehow. They were happy that their coward son had finally confessed his undying love.
"You know, I envy you alot." Yaseen pouted, putting zarda on his chest, while the poor duckling tried scraming away for freedom.
Dina who was resting her head on his shoulder furrowed her eyes as she typed away on her laptop.
"Why is that babe?" She questioned absent-minded, well aware of her husband's futile questions."Your spouse is way hotter than mine." Yaseen exclaimed, as he petted zarda forcefully.
"Huh? Wait what? We are married--" Before Dina could comprehend what Yaseen actually meant, he was already running away with zarda on his shoulder.
"COME RIGHT BACK HERE, YOU FREAKING JAAHIL." Was all Dina could shout.
"Absolutely not, you'll hit me." Yaseen exclaimed from the other room.
"What makes you think I'll not hit you anyways?" Dina said, as she got up from the couch with her laptop tucked under her arm and made her way towards the kitchen.
They lived in a lavish penthouse, with four bedrooms and a studio kitchen. Which was actually a lot of space for two people and a duckling. But, it was a gift from Yaseen's parents.
Putting the laptop on the kitchen island, Dina went to the refrigerator and stared at its contents aimlessly before grabbing the carton of OJ. Just then two muscular hands wrapped themselves around her waist, the familiar mild cologne instantly filling her senses.
"I love you, janam." Yaseen mumbled as he kissed her clothed shoulder pulling her closer to himself.
"The feelings are not mutual, janam." Dina said mockingly, as she lifted the carton to her lips and drank.
"How many times have I told you to not drink from the carton. Insaan bhi ban liya karo kabhi." Yaseen muttered, unlocking his hands from her waist and grabbed the carton from her hands before pouring some into a glass.
(Become a human for once.)
"Ooh see who is talking?" Dina scoffed, pushing the glass away."Anyways, I want chicken fajitas for dinner."
"Aww, is my human hippo hungry?" Yaseen cooed, rubbing Dina stomach in a circular motion, while Dina swatted his hands away.
"Yes and this human hippo is seconds away from kicking your ass to Alaska."
