*This is a flashback * The year is 2003 Lucious and Cookie Lyon are happily married they are focused on getting their music out into the world. They have four sons Andre Martin Lyon is the oldest at 12 Jamal Lyon is 9 Hakeem Lyon is 7 and the youngest of the pride is little Zain who just recently turned 4 Cookie knows her youngest son is different from her other boys but she doesn't quite know why he doesn't talk he doesn't give eye contact he's pretty much in his own world. However his love for music is undeniable ,which of course is something his father insists he got from him.
"I'm telling you Lucious something ain't right " " stop it Cook alright just stop why you always gotta think negatively the boys perfectly fine he's just quiet that's all " Lucious says as he plays the piano sat at the carol's kitchen table with Zain sat on his lap as for the fourth time this week he's kept his parents up by refusing to sleep " Lucious he don't sleep he barely eats and he hates loud noises you know that ain't right" Lucious got up holding the young boy on his hip " I ain't talking to you about this again cookie damn it ! In that moment, Zain started to cry as Lucious raised his voice " come here baby "cookie took him from Lucious" you know I'm right baby " she says to her husband "leave it alone man please" his voice kinda sounded like he was defeated in his heart of hearts he knew she was right but he'd rather die than admit his fears .
*Present day* (cookie is not yet out of prison Zain is now 16 and the year is 2016)
Lucious was sat in Zain's room trying to get him to sleep " come on man I ain't playing now you need to sleep" Zain gave his dad the smile he knew all too well and that was the yeah whatever dad smile . Lucious sat beside him and started to sing . Just then Zain's eyes started to drop and he began to sleep, Lucious knew there was no point in moving as there was every chance he'd wake up again so he just lay beside his son and put an arm round him " man your hard work you know that ,your momma wouldn't stand for none of your messing " he whispered to his now sleeping son with a slight chuckle
Lucious wanted nothing more then to have cookie back it was lonely having to care for Zain while making sure the rest of the family were happy and healthy. He knew him and cookie made a good team regardless of the circumstance they always had each others back.
