Chapter 32 She's Gone

Niall's POV

I woke up to a doctor shaking me, "Mr. Horan, you need to wake up." I wanted to stay asleep but then I remembered where I was. I shot up and noticed that everyone was still sleeping.

"What is it?" I asked.

"It's Darby, she is slowly slipping away. I don't think we'll be able to help her." he said with a grim look on his face.

I could feel my eyes starting to swell up with tears, "But you have to try." I stated.

"We're doing everything we can, but it would be best not to get your hopes up of her leaving. We're going to run some tests on her now and I'll come back and tell you the results."

"Wait, what are you testing her for?" I asked.

"We are going to have to remove some of her ribs and put in metal ones, plus we have to repair a hole that is in her lungs." he replied. "We are also going to have to test her for anything that that man might have carried."

I couldn't believe this, she was awake and talking earlier now she is even closer to death than before. "Can I see her?" I shyly asked. He nodded his head and shown me to where she was. Her heart monitor was beeping so slow. The doctor left us alone and I couldn't stand to see her with all the blood still on her. I grabbed one of the wash rags that was in the bathroom and wetted it down. I walked back to her and started wiping the blood away from her face and her hands. I saw that the ring was still on her finger and I lightly smiled to myself. I lifted her hair up and started to clean her neck. When I touched it she flinched and her eyes shot open. She didn't say anything though, she just started to cry.

"I'm sorry." she whispered. I just continued to clean her face off. "I'm not gonna make it, am I?" she asked. I had nothing to say to her. I didn't want to tell her the truth because I didn't want her to worry. I just smiled and kissed her on the lips. Her heart rate started to rise and I could feel her hand snake itself up to my head. I moved my hand to her cheek and I could feel a tear come from her eye. When I pulled my face away, she was smiling. "I love you." she whispered. Then she looked down at her hand, "What's this?" she asked.

"I was going to give it to you last night. Do you like it?" I asked.

"I love it. Thank you." she said.

"It's a promise ring. I promise that I will never leave you and I'll love you forever."

"And I'll never leave you. I love you so much. Stay with me please." she said while trying to wipe away the tears.

"Ok." I said then I pulled up a chair next to her bed and grabbed her hand.

After about 30 minutes of us talking, she fell asleep. She looked so peaceful. I didn't wast to leave her so I just sat my head next to her hand and fell asleep.

"Niall, wake up. Niall.. NIALL!!" Liam screamed. I rolled over and shoved my head into a pillow. My head popped up when I realized that I wasn't with Darby.

"Where is she, where am I?" I asked.

"We were all sent home. She's gone." Louis said with a grief-stricken look on his face. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "She was going into surgery and she was to far gone. She went into a different room, but never came out."

I didn't know how to react, so I just buried my head into my hands and started crying. "She said she wouldn't leave." I whispered to myself.

Ashlin's POV

I was in my room crying. I couldn't believe that she was gone. I turned on the t.v. and they were doing a story on Darby. They were talking about the guy that did this to her and I could feel my blood starting to boil. "The mysterious man that did this to 'To Infinity's' Darby has escaped from the police and is currently on the run." the news lady said. I ran down the stairs and found the boys, "He's escaped." I said with fear.

"Who?" Liam asked.

"The guy who did this to her. He escaped from jail." I answered. Their eyes almost popped out of their heads as they heard my answer. I was still standing on the stairs and I dropped down to bury my head into my knees. I screamed at the top of my lungs and started to cry again.
