[Kirigiri's POV]

Prequel to marriage...

I answered the call of one of my subordinates asking me to pick someone up. I thought I was picking up a female subordinate. To my surprise, I found out that I was picking up Naegi-kun whom had accidentally drunk alcohol and turned himself into a mess.

Even if we were all getting older, I still cannot take my eyes off him just yet...

"Please don't look at me like I am garbage, Kirigiri-san," Fukami Kurata said.

I was not aware that my face was so harsh...

"...Just tell me where he is," I said.

"Y-Yes, Ma'am," Fukami Kurata said as he led me towards the staff area. "There is your favorite subordinate, Kirigiri-san."

"Get out," I ordered him.

"Y-Yes, Ma'am!" Fukami Kurata said as he quickly got lost.

Favorite?

I walked in and saw Naegi sleeping with a goofy expression and sat beside him while combing his hair with my fingers.

While we were in a death game at Hope's Peak Academy, we teamed up together to battle Monokuma and Enoshima Junko. Multiple times, I have used him to go along with my schemes. He was just a convenient tool for me to help advance myself through the death game. Eventually, I found his positivity contagious and became hopeful for the future.

Ever since we left that place, we did our best to make a place for ourselves using our talents. However, Naegi-kun was surprisingly slow at paperwork and has often made careless mistakes. I stayed behind while he did overtime on more than I probably should have done, giving him a rather large amount of my time one in comparison to others. Realizing my actions now, I behaved rather suspiciously.

"...I thought I was being a fair boss, but maybe I have been playing favorites with Naegi-kun," I said as I rubbed his head gently.

It was not like I could help it...Naegi-kun is almost always showing a helpless puppy dog look. Other times, he is strong willed and charismatic. I have to look over him constantly to know when he switches gears from fear of missing out on any details concerning him.

"...Kirigiri-san," Naegi-kun said softly.

"...It is your fault that I am always curious about your actions," I said in a slightly reprimanding tone. "Look at what you have done to me..."

Despite his spiky looking hair, his hair was soft to the touch like a golden retriever.

"Water..."

I removed my hand from his head to get some water for him. However, he pulled me back and proceeded to put my hand back on his head. I then went back to patting his head to which he continued smiling in his sleep.

"...It feels good," Naegi said with a happy expression.

"...Naegi-kun, is there a reason why you are so needlessly adorable?" I whispered by his ear.

My grandfather taught me everything on how to be the perfect detective. His strict teaching left me unable to properly access my emotions or truly connect with anyone. Maybe that is why I am particularly drawn to Naegi-kun's bright personality and charisma. He has everything I am lacking and more. It is endearing how expressive he is at times especially right now with alcohol hindering his inhibition.

Naegi-kun began slowly sobering up as seen from him lifting his head to evaluate his current situation.

"Goodness! Just how old do you think you are for mixing up iced tea and alcohol?" I scolded.
