Over the next week things got worse. They had just passed the halfway mark, yet the middle child's health had not improved and only worsened. The illness had built immunity against the medication, and he was losing weight rapidly. Tommy had his first panic attack, at school. Thankfully, Miss Kristin helped him through it. Techno was sleeping in random places due to his bad sleep from activities he does. Phil had closed the store so he could be at home to watch the brunette at all times. He had contacted a doctor to find out how much longer they had.
2 days
He didn't tell the boys this, but he figured they had the right to know. Tommy came home tired as he usually did nowadays. And Techno was awake and getting ready to go to the fighting club. Wilbur had passed out earlier in the kitchen and was still unconscious, but Phil had moved him to the couch. Phil quietly stood and met the two boys at the benchtop.
"I have some bad news," Phil whispered, both boy's instantly preparing for the worst. Yet they weren't prepared enough. "I called the doctor and he said Wilbur has 2 more days." After those words left his mouth Tommy was sobbing and shaking and on the floor in a ball. Techno could even be seen tearing up, but he held himself back to help his youngest brother. Phil felt awful but they had the right to know.
"It's okay Tommy," Techno had wrapped his arms around the blonde and was rocking softly. "Shhhh." Phil left both of them as he didn't know what he would say. Tommy didn't want to go to school but Phil demanded him to. He still needs an education. At school Tommy only told Miss Kristin. She was very concerned she even came home with the younger. Phil was asleep on the couch possibly tired from no sleep, as you do. Techno was on the floor holding his unconscious brother in his lap. The pinkette seemed to be sobbing until he saw the two.
"Tommy..." Techno muttered. "Uh... Kristin." She gave him a small smile as Tommy slid down beside his brothers. He rested his head gently on Wilbur's chest as Techno used his other hand to comb through the blonde hair in front of him. Kristin was quickly at the couch and shaking Phil's shoulder.
"Phil," she hushed. Nothing. She sighed and went to do it herself. She dampened a cloth resting it on the brunette's forehead. He wheezed softly at the action but did not wake. "Tommy told me about it..." No one wanted to say the words as if they were denying the truth. "How far are you from the meds?"
"We only reached 60% yesterday," Techno sighed making eye contact with her. "It's fine..."
"How is he?" Kristin crossed her legs sitting across from the boys.
"He's been asleep most of the time," Techno had started fighting tears in his eyes. "He can't hold food in his body without throwing up. Every time he wakes up, he has a migraine. His breathing is unstable. It's all going bad." The pinkette let out a small sob. Kristin felt herself grow much angrier than she should be.
"Why must we pay for medication?" she huffed. "I know they need profit, but people are dying!" Techno shared a smile and he nodded.
"Kristin? What are you doing here?" Phil sounded tired but was awake. He sat next to Kristin looking at the boys.
"Tommy asked me to come over," she sighed. "He told me what was happening." Phil nodded sadly.
"How long's he been out?" Phil nodded to Techno who let out a small yawn.
"A couple hours now," the pinkette sighed. Tommy sat up rubbing his eyes after dozing off. "Well hello there." The blonde smirked and yawned.
"Hey mate," Phil soothed. "How are ya?"
"Tired."
"Not surprised," Kristin let out a quiet chuckle. "How about you 3 get some rest and I'll take the shift tonight?" All boys looked at her astonished. Phil went to protest but was interrupted.
"Sure," Technoblade had agreed. Technoblade the one who never wanted help. "We'll stay a bit longer to see him wake up if that's okay?" Kristin nodded and they went back to silence. Maybe 10 minutes later the brunette started stirring and his eyes hazily opened. Tommy's eyes shone brightly in happiness.
"Hm?" Wilbur glanced at everyone before his eyes landed on Kristin. He opened his mouth to say something, but nothing come out. He blinked slowly as he sunk back into Techno. The pinkette rubbed his arm gently.
"Hey mate," Phil whispered as if anyone said anything loud the boy would pass. "How's the pain?" Wilbur lazily held up 3 fingers and heaved a heavy sigh. Phil and Kristin helped the brunette to his feet and assisted him onto the couch.
"I can take it from here," Kristin nodded to Phil who looked at her thankfully.
"Kristin here is gonna watch you for a bit okay mate?" Wilbur nodded giving Phil a little smile as he helped the other boys to their rooms.
"Can I get you anything Wilbur?" Kristin smiled gently. The brunette shook his head, and she took a seat beside him.
"It's..." Wilbur spoke after a few moments of silence. "Destroying... them..." Kristin looked sadly at the boy who had begun to tear up. It was bad to be ill but to be aware that you are hurting the people you care for, its somehow worse than dying. Kristin had no idea how to respond to that. Wilbur noticed her silence and smiled again. "I wish I... I wasn't h-hurting them..." Without warning Kristin launched herself onto the boy in a hug.
"Oh Wilbur," she shook. "It's not your fault. You didn't pick this. You didn't want this. I swear I am going to help you and them, I promise." Wilbur also started shaking as he returned the embrace. Both brunettes sat like that for a bit until Wilbur went limp and Kristin lay him down draping a blanket over the boys body. She put the tv on to try and stop herself from crying constantly. It didn't help but it was definitely entertainment, so she didn't sleep on her job.
After an hour or two Techno had reappeared ready to go to the club. Kristin gave him a questioning look, but he didn't notice and was outside quickly. She sighed and combed her hand through the boy's hair beside her. He whined softly and she started to shake. She barely knew these people, yet she felt dreadful to see them suffering.
"Hey," she turned to see Phil standing on the stairs with tired eyes.
"Hey," Kristin turned away as Phil entered the kitchen.
"Coffee?" Kristin muttered a yes. "Usual?" the woman smirked. Phil had soon delivered her coffee just how she liked it. "So..."
"Bookstore still going?"
"Yeah, not very busy but I've gotten busy with other things," Phil smiled slightly.
"True," Kristin sighed taking a sip of coffee. "I'm sor-"
"Please," Phil interrupted. "It was my fault in the first place." The woman sighed.
"What happened Phil?" the man contemplated for moments.
"I guess I just..." Phil heaved a heavy sigh. "Doubted myself, everything from my smoking to my looks." Kristin began tear up.
"You know I never cared about that...." The woman stood slowly approaching the blonde adult. "Right?" Phil nodded softly. "I love you just how you are."
"Loved," Phil stated blandly.
"I never stopped loving you Phil"
