Phil let out a mangled sob as he pulled the boys head into his chest. The doctor had also gone to take the boys vitals. It was a blur for Techno. One second his brother was sat upright and the next he had passed out. The doctor now started talking to the two adults and was then assisted by Phil picking Wilbur up. The boy hung limp in the blonde's arms. Phil, as seen by everyone, had tears coming to his eyes. As Phil was shown by the doctor to the room Tommy jumped up not frozen unlike the eldest.
"NO!" Tommy screamed and Kristin held him back. "YOU CAN'T TAKE HIM AWAY!" The blonde boy was very distraught and writhed in Kristin's grip. Phil couldn't bare looking back so he just continued on, the boy in his arms his biggest priority. Techno unfrozen from his shock was quick next to Tommy and wrapped his brother in a tight embrace. Tommy started crying quite heavily now as Techno attempted and failed to swallow his sobs.
"H-He..." Tommy breathed heavily. Tommy didn't finish his sentence and instead proceeded to continue is loud sobbing. Techno looked over to Kristin who was frozen looking at the boys.
"It's okay..." she spoke softly kneeling next to them both. "It'll be okay... the doctor is going to fix your brother... I promise." Empty promises, Techno weren't very fond of them, but he didn't mind the reassurance even if he deep down knew, Wilbur was gone. The boys were assisted back onto the waiting chairs with Kristin holding them tight.
Who knows how long they were there, but it had become late in the night and Tommy had passed out from exhaustion and Kristin too. Techno was staring at the door of the doctor's office intensely, waiting. He didn't remember when he fell asleep but next thing, he knew he was being shaken awake. Kristin's eyes met his and he didn't bother with a smile. She did though and brushed his hair from his face. Techno jerked away not wanting anyone to particularly touch him. She understood and sat back.
"Do you boys want to go home?" she asked quietly. Tommy nodded slowly, rubbing his eyes. Techno contemplated it but nodded too in the end. Kristin smiled. "I've already told Phil so don't worry." The pinkette followed Kristin as he held Tommy's hand. They walked past the office and Tommy dared a peak. Techno held him back smiling sadly. The two boys trailed behind the woman in the dark. The small house they had been calling home for a while now came into view and they entered quickly. Kristin was quick to make food, but she already assumed barely anyone was hungry.
Tommy had gone upstairs to his room already and Techno just sat at the benchtop staring off into the distance, absent minded. Kristin left him a plate of whatever kind of food she just put together. Like a queen. But Techno didn't pay attention to it. Deciding to go to bed early he went upstairs flashing the adult a quick nod. She smiled sadly back and watched him leave the downstairs area. Tommy was curled up in a foetus position sobbing silently. Techno sat carefully next to him rubbing his back.
Tommy sniffled before sitting up to make eye contact with the eldest. Techno could see the dark bags under his eyes, the eyes that burdened more than a 10-year-old should hold within. He was pale as if he had seen a ghost. Techno felt his heart shatter more than it already was. This boy has been through so much pain, at his age he shouldn't have to worry about any of it. For a few moments Techno imagined what it would be like for Tommy if he had remained in that orphanage. He imagined it would have turned out much better for the blonde boy. Tommy noticed his brother's silence and wrapped his arms around him slowly.
"It's okay," the 10-year-old whispered. "He's gonna come back to us." Techno let out a sob clinging to his younger brother with dear life. The two had ended up passing into a light state of sleep as if they waited to hear the door open downstairs.
And that moment came.
Both boys shot upright like zombies and raced downstairs to see. Phil stood in the doorway chatting to Kristin. They looked around for the missing brunette boy. Making eye contact with Phil he smiled softly. He opened his coat revealing the shivering boy tucked in close to his body. Those comforting glorious amber eyes met eyes the colour of dried blood and the colour of a bright blue clear sky. Tommy was quick to wake from his shock and nearly trip his rest of the way downstairs and tackle his older brother. Techno fell to his knees after reaching the group. Tommy had attached himself to Wilbur full time now as Phil and Kristin stood back to give them a moment or two.
"Hey..." Techno looked back up meeting his favourite pairs of eyes. He shook with emotion standing back up and wrapping both boys close to him. Wilbur giggled as he made eye contact with the adults. He gave a small smile ad they nodded. Techno had begun to sob again as he pulled both boys back to the floor with him. They sat like that for a while, chatting and crying, exchanging laughs and quiet murmurs. Phil watched with emotion clouding his mind. That was the moment fog cleared for him and he saw Kristin beside him smiling and crying but in particular, holding his hand. Phil recognised the sensation in his veins.
The adrenaline, the love, the relief, all of it.
