I barely had one day to rest.
Honestly, what the hell.I showed the contractor around the house so he can give me an estimated price and time for everything to be completed. He said they can have it done within two weeks, which means the house would be filled with working men and women all day while I am at work. Until the house is finished, I can't stay at home since the fresh paint, varnish, and protectant polish will be too hazardous to sleep in. So I had to book a suite at the nearest hotel so it won't be difficult to transport from home to work and wherever I may be needed.
I packed a couple of outfits for the week and load my car.
"I have assigned which guards will be joining you. They are good guys," Frank says handing me my tote bag, "Are you sure you wouldn't rather stay with Miss Kinsman? or another close friends,"
I pat him on the shoulder, "Let's be honest. I have no other friend other than Liv. But she is staying at her boyfriend's place and I don't want to trouble her. Besides, the hotel has really good reviews, I will be fine,"
He nods, "Anything else you need before you go?"
"Yes actually. Whenever the people come to work on the house, make sure a guard is watching their every move. And I mean it. I don't want any secret camera in my bedroom or some weird shit," I shudder at the thought.
"Language," Frank says sternly, "And will do,"
"Thanks. Also, how is the wife? Is she getting along pretty well?" I ask, walking towards the driver's side.
"Yes, Lilith is fine. Two months in on her pregnancy, everything is going smoothly," he smiles proudly.
"Aww. Your family is growing... lucky you," I slide into my seat.
He holds the handle before I can close it, "You know one day you will be happily married and will have a kid. It's not the end of the world for you. You're still young and more than capable of living a happy life with a family of your own,"
I look up at him, "You really think someone will want to marry me?"
He laughs a hearty laugh, "Oh God, you're hilarious, Miss Moore. Clearly, you don't pay attention to your surroundings often,"
I roll my eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Whatever. All these men want is a title, not me,"
"I'm not so sure," before I can ask him to elaborate, he shuts the door and waves.
I huff a breath.
I roll the window down and stick up my middle finger as I drive away."TEMPEST!" I hear Frank yell, but I smile at the rearview mirror.
The air felt nice.
The sun was beginning to set, giving yet another beautiful sky view. The wind blows through my hair as I fly down the highway as music blares through the car. I missed this. I remember back in Canada, I used to go on drives just for fun. I had a favorite building where I would just chill on the rooftop by myself. I would paint the sunset, or at least try. I would read, listen to music, stargaze. It was a place I cherished because it felt like it belonged to me without actually belonging to me.Now, basically, everything can belong to me with a snap of a finger. It's not as fun. It's abnormal. But I should be grateful to even have this much privilege as a young black woman.
I pull up to the front of the hotel where a valet waits. I hand him my keys as other men come and unload the trunk. My bodyguards should be arriving soon. I walk inside and check-in at the front desk. The lady was excited, considering this is the hotel that my grandfather owned, which now belongs to Amanda. I wonder how she is managing it.
