Elias frantically puts his hands forward, trying to stop me from coming any closer. It doesn't work. I rush to him, tears blurring my eyes as I examine the spots of blood all over his shirt.
"What happened? Who did this to you?!" I scream, gently touching the red spots waiting for any reaction to pain.
Elias grabs my wrist and stops me, "I'm okay... hey listen to me. I am okay,"
Unbeknownst to me, my breathing has become shaky and increased. I am starting to feel lightheaded.
Stupid me.
I shouldn't have let him go. I shouldn't have, knowing he could get hurt. knowing he was up to nothing good."Tempest," his voice finally breaks through and captures my attention. I look into his own worried eyes, "it's not my blood..."
His words snatch my breath.
I stumble back out of his grasp as I stare at him.
"What?" I breathe, taking another step back in disbelief, "Did you... did you KILL him? Thomas? Did Kindle ask you to kill him?"
He takes a step forward with each step I take back.
The dark wavy hair that surrounds his face, the bloodied shirt, the steady movement.
At this moment... I feel a sense of fear."Stop walking away and let me explain," he says a bit too calmly, but with an undertone of aggression.
With my next step, I hit the leg of a table and trip backward, tumbling to the shiny marble floors.
He stands over me, with an amused smile.
My heart is racing."Is he dead?"
He frowns at my question, "No. I didn't kill anyone. Why are you so hung up on the idea that I KILLED someone?" he crouches down, only a breath away.
I am ashamed to have directly accused him of such a hard crime. His deadly stare makes my face get hotter by the second, and I feel like I am on trial.
He sighs, "I wasn't dealing with Thomas... I was dealing with Benson Berlin,"
"Amanda's husband?"
"Yes,"
I look around the foyer, in disbelief, "I thought we were going to deal with him as a team? Isn't it a little too early for you to be getting violent without having a solid plan? Without consulting me?"
"I didn't want you to get into the gruesome part of his case. I mean, a pedophile who assaulted the orphans he sponsored to go to the school he taught at? Even I couldn't stomach it, let alone you, who is a strong woman," Elias speaks.
There is a moment of silence between us.
"I did what was right. I was protecting the woman I love from something I thought was not suitable to be in your conscience, and I beat Benson senselessly. He is still alive... I actually took him to the hospital after he was knocked out. And when he gets better... I plan on beating him again,"
I turn to him.
What a sick way of getting revenge. The consistent torment, not to mention the amount of money that will be spent on the hospital bills.I push myself off the ground, and he does the same.
"Are you hungry?"
His brow raises, but he slowly shakes his head.
"Get yourself cleaned up, then," I turn and walk back to the study.
"Tempest, wait,"
I don't. I don't wait, instead, walk faster. I enter the room and push the door to close.
