I put the car in park, and glance at the rearview mirror.
I see Elias's car pass by, looking for another parking space. We decided it would be best if we didn't show up in the same vehicle. It seems unprofessional for two people with expensive and well-working cars to ride together. It is unnatural... unless there is something more going on.
Which there isn't.
"Tempest," I hear Elias call my name as I walk to the front door of the building.
I pretend not to hear him as I enter. I greet the man at the front desk as he lets me through the security.
"There is a man on his way inside, please give him a hard time but let him in eventually. His name is Elias Romano," I tell him.
"Sure thing," the man smiles.
I head to the elevator, which opens just as Elias approaches the front desk. I smile at him and wave. He gives me a confused look but then gets alarmed as the security detector goes off. The elevator slides shut just as he glares in my direction. It's replaced with my blurred reflection on the doors. I can't help but laugh a little at the pettiness.
When I get to the seventeenth floor, I see everyone in their own cubicles answering phone calls or typing away on their computer screen. No one really looks up. I make my way to the meeting room down the hall and walk-in.
Everyone's head turns around, mid-conversation.
I spot my seat at the head of the table open, Carlos and Malachi sitting on each side along with the other colleagues."Good morning, everyone," I say, "Sorry if I made you all wait too long,"
Everyone excuses me for my late arrival as I make my way to my seat. There is a small projector at the end of the table and a laptop sitting in front of a man sitting next to Malachi.
The slide is titled "Introduction to Corporation Management".
I hold back a smile. I think it is very thoughtful that they are prepared to help me adjust to my grandfather's position.
"Well, now that we are all here, is it okay to begin," the man asks me.
I nod and gestured for him to start.
The door opens.Everyone turns to Elias, who is straightening out his blazer with a displeased face in my direction. I cover my mouth and turn away.
"Why is he here?" Carlos leans over and whispers, ruining my victorious moment.
I pull myself together, "He is going to be watching over how we will be getting back on track, now that things are going to go back to normal,"
"But does he have to attend this meeting? It's only for the people involved?"
"Isn't he technically involved? I don't understand why it's my fault that he is here when it's YOUR brother that sent him," I whisper, frustrated at how this is turning into my problem.
Carlos huffs a breath and sits up straight in his seat, glaring at his nephew who takes the only remaining seat at the end of the table.
"Let's begin," I say.
The presentation is basically manual. Everything that my grandfather was working on, everything the company invests in, the underground business with the casinos, the drug trafficking, and so on and so forth. Most of this I already knew of, but it did help to further understand how important this office is. It's discrete and hidden in plain sight with real office work alongside my own people who do mafia entailed work. There is also mention of the wealthy families and their activities over the past couple of years towards the Moore Mafia. It's so well coordinated for business.
