this is a trans atsushi AU!!

"atsushi?" akutagawa yelled into the apartment, him standing next to the entrance closing the door.

"i'm in the bedroom!" the other replied with the same volume. akutagawa walks into him and atsushi's shared bedroom, noticing atsushi sitting on the bed, scrolling on his phone. his face scrunched in annoyance.

akutagawa snickers at this observation. "what's wrong, jinko?" he walks to the jinko, sitting on the edge of their shared bed.

"how much do you think top surgery is, babe?" that question was somewhat predictable. atsushi has been saving up money for resources to help him with his transition, he recently was able to afford a cheap binder.

akutagawa sighs, "babe, we've talked about this. it's really expensive and i don't think with the payment you receive from the agency you'll be close to affording it for a while. i'm sorry, but you have to be patient."

"i know. i know, but i asked the president if i could get a raise and he said he'll consider it! then with the extra money, maybe i could afford bottom surgery too!" atsushi beams, akutagawa puts a hand on the other's shoulder.

"jinko, this will be a long and difficult process, okay? i understand your dysphoria has been getting worse recently, but please think about how this will affect us financially. both surgeries are expensive and we could easily need that extra money in the future", sincerity can be heard in his usually monotone voice.

atsushi's eyes start to become glassy, he nods. "yeah, i know but it's just hard. i hate feeling-", atsushi's chest tightens and chokes out some coughs.

akutagawa looks concerned for the jinko and puts a hand on his back, tracing light touch circles. "atsushi, how long have you been wearing your binder?" akutagawa's voice quickly switches to worry.

atsushi continues coughing for a couple more seconds, before responding. "16 hours..", he mumbles.

"jinko, im sorry but you need to take it off. if it's hurting you then that's when you need to take it off!" atsushi looks up at the ravenette, tears slowly escaping his sunset eyes.

"o-okay.." he moves off the bed and walks into the bathroom, locking the door behind him.

akutagawa sighs. "damn, that was close.."

what atsushi doesn't know is, akutagawa has been saving up most of his payments from the mafia, for top surgery for the jinko, in a separate account.

the agency is aware of what akutagawa is planning and insisted on helping, so they're all pitching in by donating some of their savings to akutagawa.

the ravenette's plan is to save enough money for atsushi's top surgery and surprise him for his birthday.

"hey ryuu, can we watch a movie?" atsushi walks out of the bathroom. akutagawa looks up at his boyfriend and smiles.

this boy has saved him from many situations, he even saved him from his own mind. he showed him the light, little by little. soon, akutagawa had escaped the darkness and found his reason for living a better and happier life. atsushi nakajima. his jinko.
