Ah, yes. Senior year.
Another year of torment.
Oh, joy.
At least it's almost over.
Always a bright side.
Keith trudged his way through the bustling hallways of his school. It was stuffed full of sweaty high schoolers, tossing things and rubbing shoulders as they went about their business.
That business often included making Keith's life a living hell.
Kids were cruel. And on the first day back, when friends were meeting friends and the freshmen smelled like fresh prey, being a senior was supposed to mean you were the boss. But Keith didn't feel like a boss. Just another easy target.
He was very short, about 4'10". And a half. Can't forget about that half inch. His electric blue hair dyed from his dirty blonde roots also made him stick out like a sore thumb, earning menacing glances and a couple of laughs from his classmates. He chose a simple outfit today; a white shirt thrown under an oversized black sweatshirt and some torn up jeans. His black platforms added a couple of inches to his height, but they were quickly deducted due to his slouching habit. His earbuds sat firmly in his ears, blasting music and drowning out the loud hallway.
The baggy clothes, by design, hid his feminine build. While he wasn't very tall, puberty had hit the poor guy like a fucking train. Keith had an hourglass shape most dudes would fawn over. If he was a girl, that is. He certainly wasn't a girl, and never was a girl, but despite that the thought of exposing himself to the other kids made him shudder. He always changed for gym in the bathrooms, risking getting in trouble if it meant he had some privacy.
Keith was never good at making friends. He hadn't had a friend since elementary school, from before his... incident. After that fateful day, he never wanted to talk to anyone ever again. And so he didn't. With the exclusion of the occasional talk with his parents, he didn't speak. The little 'beep boop' noises saved his ass on multiple occasions, as people either thought he had a speech impediment or that he was just fucked in the head and left him alone.
It kinda backfired, though. As soon as some of the tougher kids caught wind of these little noises, they bullied Keith to no end. Verbal, physical, whatever they could do to him. And it fucking sucked.
Sticking to the wall, Keith finally found his way to his first class. English.
Fuck.
Language classes were the worst. It wasn't that he was bad at them. In fact, he loved language arts. It was just...
You had to talk.
Keith dug in his bag, pulling out his copy of "The Hitchhiker's Guide the the Galaxy" and opened it to the bookmarked page. Leaning against the wall, he read, waiting for the bell.
He had always loved to read. Books over movies, that's how he lived. Those carefully bound pages let him travel to another, better place. It was an easy escape. Just like music.
Yeah, he sang a little. And played four interments. Piano, guitar, drums, bass, plus he knew how to use an electrophone. Not that he kept track or anything. You just kinda had to play if you wanted to mix your own beats.
Keith had a SoundCloud, where he went by his stage name, 'Boyfriend.' He had gained a little bit of popularity, making enough money to fund his teenage habits and save a little extra for college. He really enjoyed it. Making music at home was his escape from the cruel reality of school. Of being alone, with only his earbuds and his book keeping him company.
