YOU

Weeks had passed since you had heard from either of your lovers. You weren’t exactly sure of the reason, though you had a hunch it might be their way of keeping you safe and out of the confrontation between them and your common enemy. Best that way anyways. The last few weeks of school had kept you occupied your mind was set on completing menial daily tasks.

Thankfully, Seokjin’s thoughts seemed to have been as preoccupied with work as your own.
He was almost back to being his ‘normal’ self, or at least, back to being the Seokjin you had known before this whole year and its events. The last days of the academic year had dawned on you both faster than expected. Students had finally left the magical campus, some teachers would leave at dawn, others a while later.

That evening, both sitting in the teacher’s lounge, sinking comfortably in the large leather sofa, you sipped on one of his magical spirits and cheered at your last day of work for the semester.

“I can’t believe this year is already over,” Seokjin muttered, lips against his glass,
“It felt like September first was just a few weeks ago… so much as happened since. I’m glad I got to show you Mahoutokoro, and I’m glad you met my friends. I wish it had happened withouth all that... baggage.”

“I wish I could have met them under better circumstances… withouth risking my life, twice,” you chuckled,
“And now we’re June 3Oth, the students are gone, most teachers are leaving in the morning... and we’re both here again, as we do every year, drinking and laughing. Same old, same old.”

“Except we’re not the same old people, are we?”

    “Definitely not,” you smiled,
“I’m certainly not the insecure little witch I was months ago. And you’re not just the handsome, funny colleague I had a mild crush on,”

   “Oh wow—” Seokjin laughed aloud,
“… it would have never worked between us, you are far too impetuous for my taste,” his smile slowly faded away as a stern expression replaced it,
           “Have you had news?”

You knew he was referring to Namjoon and his plans to find out whom attacked you all in Seoul. You denied with your chin, sipping on the remnant of your drink.

    “Are you worried?” he added.

“Not really, I haven’t had the time to worry yet. Give me a couple of hours and I’ll overthink it all. Then I’ll be worried.” You tried to keep the conversation lighthearted, though it felt like Seokjin needed more than casual talk.

Of course, you had told him everything you knew: how Namjoon and the rest of them suspected Hoseok, how all the evidence pointed to him, and how they were in the middle of an investigation that would either confirm or deny their claims. Maybe Namjoon wouldn’t have wanted you to tell him everything, he would have wanted Seokjin’s mind to be free of yet another burden. But you wouldn’t hide anything from him, not anymore. You had promised yourself you would only ever speak the truth, in its entirety, even if it was too much. And if he cracked, you’d be there for him, keep him from sinking in the darkness within.

“Why would Hoseok be after me, what grudge has he been holding on to for years…?” Seokjin had evidently spent time pondering on the situation, more than you had.

“… maybe your brother had spoken to him about the bow. Maybe Hoseok wanted it for himself, to use it and free himself from the shackles Seok-jun had him on.”

    “Maybe,” Seokjin pinched his lips,
“Though I doubt he would have revealed anything about it. He was way too possessive with the object, he would rather it remained a forgotten relic, his own secret weapon to satisfy his megalomania. Seok-jun wouldn’t have shared that information with anyone.”

“… is that why he over-reacted?” you wondered.
