Ch. 7 - By Your Side When You're All Alone

Some cute moments between Cheryl and Toni. We see a little bit of Cheryl and Fangs' friendship, as well.

Toni woke up to her phone ringing incessantly. She blinked her eyes open, grumbling as she tried to roll over, finding that Veronica was pressed firmly against her front and Cheryl to her back, with a pale arm draped over her. She could feel Cheryl’s breaths on the back of her neck as her phone continued to ring. Finally, she reached under her pillow, where the noise was coming from.

“Hello?” Her voice came out raspy from lack of using it.

“Toni, I’ve called you like ten times. Why didn’t you answer?”

Fuck.

Toni slowly and carefully sat up before she continued, “Sorry, Laura. I was asleep. What's up?"

"I just thought I'd call and let you know that I got tonight and tomorrow off. Maybe we could do something?"

Toni closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath. "Babe, I have to take photos at the game tonight. I have to work."

She could immediately hear the anger in her fiance's voice. Could hear how upset she was as she started sniffling.

"Toni, I'm really fucking trying here. I asked off for you, so you could come here and spend time with me." Laura sobbed out.

Toni quietly got up out of the bed, trying not to wake her friends before she made her way to her bedroom and quietly shut the door.

"I'm sorry, but I can't just leave. If we had planned this, I could have gotten someone to cover for me, but I can't miss this." Toni paced around her room, holding the back of her neck with her free hand. "What about next weekend? There's an away game, and I don't go to those."

It was quiet for a moment as Laura cried, but she finally answered with, "I'll try to get off, but I can't make any promises."

"We can just reserve a hotel and if you work, you can still crash there, or something. Just so we can spend some time together."

There was a soft knock on her bedroom door before Cheryl popped her head in. Toni waved her over as Cheryl shut the door before she took a seat next to her.

"Oh, okay. That could work, but I'd have to lie to my family about where I am."

A soft hand grazed her arm, giving a gentle squeeze. Toni felt goosebumps taking over her entire body. She felt the electricity she was still unfamiliar with. Cheryl laid her head on Toni's shoulder, still rubbing a tanned arm while Toni talked on the phone

"Whatever you're comfortable with, I'll go with it. It would just be nice to see and spend time with you."

Oddly enough, Toni didn't feel uncomfortable or weird while talking to Laura and having Cheryl there with her.

"Alright, then. I'll call around and see what's available."

The two had ended their calls without any 'love yous' and Toni would be completely honest if she said she wasn't the slightest bit upset. She sighed, taking Cheryl's hand that was on her arm into her own.

"You're going to see her?" Cheryl asked, not bothering to look up. She didn't sound upset at all.

"I am," Toni sighed again. "Next weekend, though. Since there's an away game."

"I'll miss you," Cheryl spoke quietly as she looked up to meet Toni's eyes.

A pale hand cupped Toni's cheek before pulling her in for a kiss. Toni's hands moved down to Cheryl's waist, pulling her in closer until her legs were resting over Toni's. Long fingers ran through pink hair as their lips moved slowly, savoring the moment. At some point, they both needed air as their foreheads pressed together.
