After Adele died Richard fell into a deep depression for a while but at the same time Ellis was cured with the Alzheimer thanks to Derek which made ellis remember everything that has ever happened even for when she kissed him infront of the sink.
After Ellis got cured, she decided to take a little break on everything to clear her mind and after awhile she returned back to Seattle and had a talk with Richard.
They both never really got over each other even though Ellis left Thatcher for Richard but Richard didn't have the heart to leave Adele for ellis which put her in a bad place when she tried to kill herself and traumatised Meredith for life. But since Adele died, they both decided to see if they should try their relationship all over again and mnore civilise without sneaking around like they use to.
