Inquest into prostitute Catherine Eddowes;
October 4, 1888
Samuel F. Langham, 41, the City of London Coroner, was a man on a mission. He had short, grey hair, brown colored eyes, and tall.
He wore a black colored coat, a white colored shirt, a red colored tie, brown colored breeches, a black colored belt, brown colored socks, and black (polished) shoes.
He also was wearing a gold colored watch on his left, middle finger. And he had a gold wedding ring on his right, middle finger.
"I searched house to house...in London...Whitechapel and the East End were full o' prostitutes; lots o' prostitutes...And the Ripper could have murdered those women in the dark gloom o' the passages of London...I, in my belief, is that no evidence was seen o' foul play...Noone was suspicious-looking; noone. Eddowes was slashed across the throat, as she lay on the ground...And then found mutilated", he stated to the Court of London.
After the Inquest ended, Catherine Eddowes's funeral was set for several days' later. And, by early October, 1888, everyone thought the Jack the Ripper murders were finished.
They were, sadly, wrong.
