Cassie's POVI watched as the cake began to tumble as Kreacher struggled to put it on the kitchen table. I began to turn my head slightly eyeing the cake from a far. It was definitely something to say the least. Kreacher and I both thought that the best best present would be something that we made, not to mention that Severus refused to tell me anything about what he wanted. I had spent weeks, watching him carefully, trying to see if he needed anything, or if he would speak about wanting something, but it never came. I was sure he knew I was reaching for anything and that was why he barely spoke a word when it came to his birthday.
I made Kreacher come out from his home, trying to see if he could tell me anything but unless it dealt with my family, he knew nothing. Then my mind came to the Muggle world, the way they all celebrate another year of life, I knew that a cake was perfect. Kreacher and I spend hours making it, building it, putting frosting on it. Did I mention that we had to try again after I messed up the ingredients. But finally! It was right in front of me, all I needed to do was write his name on it, and it would be perfect.
I smiled down to Kreacher, as he handed me the frosting. I took a deep breath, not being able to stop the smile on my face from forming as I finished the wording on the top. I set it down, looking at the final product with its final touches. I lightly jumped in excitement, looking down at Kreacher beside me.
"Do you think he will like it?" I asked.
"Kreacher thinks that if this was his cake, he would love it," he finished.
I laughed lightly, reaching down to him, embracing his very small frame. I could feel his hands hesitate before embracing me as well. I stood back up, grabbing my wand, flicking it to the mess in the kitchen. I did say I would make this cake from scratch, but that however, did not mean I would clean it up the same. I went into my bedroom, stripping from my clothes, putting on my evening clothes. Nothing to fancy, it was comfortable. A simple sweater with pants that I only would wear when I would eat cake.
My mind was taken from it euphoric state with a knock on my door. I brushed away the last few knots that my hair had walking back into my kitchen, looking at the door where the knocking had not stopped since. I knew it wasnt Severus since he never knocked, and now would let himself in. I looked back to Kreacher as he went into his house, a groan left my mouth as I opened the door.
I looked at the short, red headed lady in front of me, who showed no sort of emotion as she looked up to me. I mean, I was unsure what to say, considering Molly hadnt returned any of my owls, yet she never failed to return Godfathers. I didnt know what she wanted, but it didnt look like she came here with an apology either.
I motioned for her to come in, she lightly nodded, walking directly to my kitchen table. Her eyes looked back to me, then the cake, looking carefully at the lettering. It didnt take much, not to mention the years I had spend with her to know she was judging it, not the cake, the choice in men.
"Remus was right then," she said looking to me as if it was a question.
I shrugged my shoulders, taking a seat at the table as she continued to look at me. Her eyes held something in them, almost as if she was sad at the sight of me. She took a seat herself, reaching her hands out across the table, taking them back before I had time to react.
"I know you and I have not spoken in quite a while," she said looking to me, "However, you know better than anyone, how much I care for you,"
"This could have been better said on an owl, Molly. Or did you forget to send it out? Or throw it away along with the dozens of owls I had already sent to you in these past few months?" I said sitting back in my chair.
