"You seem nervous." I tried to laugh off David's statement, but the sound came up fake and unconvincing. The two weeks until my father's wedding had passed way too quickly, and sooner rather than later, my friend and I were bidding the campers adieu for a weekend and piling luggage into the camp-mobile. The venue required us to travel across a few states, meaning we had to book a hotel to stay in the night before the wedding and the night before we left.

I'd dragged David into town a few days prior to hunt for suitable clothing, both ending up with some form of suit. Mine was navy, his black, and the two of us decided to compromise on matching olive green ties. Apart from my dad himself, my auntie Jill, Lila and Freddie, it was unlikely I'd know anyone there, having not had any contact with my extended family either. This time for a legitimate reason though, given their rather... Devout views on certain topics. Basically they were homophobic assholes. I'd warned my redhead friend in advance with a grim look, who'd happily promised to stick by my side all day, assuring to fight anyone who made any negative comments on the subject.

I'd have laughed that off as an empty threat had it not been for the time I'd seen him punch that Jacob guy for dating Bonquisha.

"Please for the love of God teach me the art of being blissfully unaware, it seems relaxing." I muttered with a grin.

"It'll be fine. It's just one day, then we can leave. Besides, you said yourself, you want to be there for your dad, even if you don't agree with what he's doing." David replied, making a left turn towards the hotel parking lot. It was already pretty late, about half ten in the evening, roughly.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." I pulled the sleeves of my jumper over my hands to stop them riding up as I stretched out my arms. "Ready for a night of not being able to sleep?" I added.

"At least the absence of Gwen means we can talk freely instead of texting." He offered. I hummed in agreement.

"Insomnia's a fucking drag." I grumbled.

"Language." The turquoise eyed man frowned, pulling into a parking spot.

"Like you didn't say much the same at the bonfire." I reminded him of when he'd broken his vow of no swearing in response to Max.

"That was a very pressurising situation-" He began to protest. I laughed.

"I know, I know, just messing with you." He took the key out of the ignition, car spluttering to a stop. I got out first, popping the trunk and grabbing my suitcase, flicking up the handle so it was easier to drag along the ground. David mimicked, locking the camp-mobile when he was done.

We walked to the front desk in silence, checking in without any trouble. We made it to our room fairly easily, David immediately collapsing on his bed after driving for so long. We both knew no matter how tired he was, sleep most likely would elude him. I elected to go take a shower, wanting to wash my hair now so I didn't have to bother in the morning. I quickly changed into my pajamas, noticing a text from Lila. A lot of the guests were supposedly staying at the same hotel, and I assumed she was just informing me of her arrival.

Chat: Lila!
