"For God's sake Max, will you quit being such a shit today?" I snapped, snatching the spoon off him to prevent any more mashed potato flinging. Yes, I'd also been annoyed at how loud Preston was having to shout to get his near-deaf grandma to hear him, but I wasn't going around trying to start food fights. Then again, I am an adult.

"What are you gonna do, Avery? Send me to a summer camp where you don't have to deal with me?" Oh wow, he did not just go there. Can't say I'm surprised, but nonetheless...

"I'm trying to help, trust me, when your parents get here I am going to have a few very choice words with them, but I need you to work with me." I slammed the utensil down on the table harder than I meant to. "So can you make my job a little easier?"

"There's no use talking to them. They don't give a shit and they're not coming!" He retorted. Max's face was angry, but for once, I heard a hint of sadness lacing into his tone of voice.

"I will drag them up here myself if I have to so they fucking appreciate how lucky they are to have a son like you!" I hissed, trying not to draw attention to what was going on. The boy didn't respond to this, eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion.

"Okay family, who's ready for dessert!" Whatever might have transpired after I admitted my plan to the black haired boy was interrupted by David's bubbly arrival, bringing with him three slices of cake. I smiled at the sentiment, taking a plate from him. I noticed Max open his mouth to speak.

"Is it too late to get adopted by one of the other families?" Was all he said in the end. I felt myself throw up a little in my mouth watching Nikki and Neil's mom and dad flirt, so I turned my attention to my cake. The redhead pulled into the chair next to me, grinning faintly as he took a bite. I didn't eat so quickly, deciding to take a second to relax and rest my head on his shoulder.

"I'm tired..." I mumbled into the fabric of his sleeveless brown jacket.

"Well we've still got a few hours to go!" I could hardly wait. I sighed, allowing myself a yawn before sitting back up.

"Oh for fucks sake!" I cursed. I took my eyes off my cake for a second and Max was throwing it at people. "I wasn't done eating that!" I told him firmly.

"Seeing what just happened, you can go eat something else. Like David's dick." I took a deep breath and gritted my teeth, trying not to show how annoyed I was getting.

"Max, you are really testing my patience today!" Surprisingly, it was the tall counsellor who intervened. "I have half a mind to tell your parents about this when they get here."

"How are you not getting this? They don't care about this shit. They are not coming. Ever." The boy yelled back. Wow, really immaculate time for the Mess Hall doors to be pounded upon. If it was who we thought it was, I was about to do some rigorous yelling. Maybe even a little fighting, provided David wasn't there to hold me back. I knew Gwen would let me attack someone with full support, so no worries there.

Cameron opened to doors cautiously, revealing a rather - and I don't intend to sound mean here - unattractive couple. Definitely not Max's parents. For one, they were white. I narrowed my eyes a bit, trying to get round their weird figure and concerning bulges where there shouldn't have been skin to bulge.

"Hey everyone. We're Mr and Mrs Fartz. Has anyone seen our beautiful boy, Jermy?"

After an awkward explanation of Jermy's whereabouts and how Gwen had lost him to the Woodscouts, Mr Campbell pulled everyone over to the theatre camp stage so the kids could showcase the talents they'd earned from their respective camps. With Max's parents being basically a confirmed no-show, the duty of performing with the boy landed on David and I.
