She awoke for the second time in the same restraints as before. The sedative that they had given barely put her under for an hour, although it still left the same disgusting film of numbness on her tongue.
Slowly, in pieces her memory refreshed, buffering like a laggy YouTube video, coming in glimpses and flashes.
Him pinning down her hands.
Her spitting in his face.
Him asking about Nat and Steve.
Then the sudden rush of coldness in her veins as the huge green one, intravenously gave her the drug.
Glaring at the crook of her elbow where the IV was taped to her skin, she reached to rip it out of her, but her right hand could only make it two centimeters past her face.
Groaning, she craned her neck to see how tight the restraints were and let out a small laugh as she saw basic police department issued handcuffs. Easy to escape from if you were willing to do what she was about to.
It was going to hurt like hell.
Gritting her teeth, she wished there was a piece of wood or something for her to bite down on, she didn't want to lose her tongue to this endeavour.
She heard the crack that resonated from inside her body before she felt it. Searing pain radiated through her entire palm before slowly traveling up her arm, her thumb bent at an unnatural angle. However, it gave her enough wriggle room to force her entire hand out, but not without cutting her up a bit in the process. There were a few scratches on her wrist as she impatiently yanked it through, but nothing too permanent.
She enjoyed her partial freedom for all of three seconds before taking a deep breath and popped her thumb back into its socket. The last thing she wanted right now was for it bruise and swell. She would need both hands functional if she was going to get out of here. The pain went down from her wanting to chop the finger off to a sharp throbbing, but she didn't have time to think about that. She pushed it down into a small box, locked it tight and tossed it into the recesses of her mind, where she would deal with that later. She had no idea how she did it, but she felt as if this wasn't the first time she threw her feelings out of the window in favor of clarity and escape. Speaking of escape, it seemed that the Spider-Dude or whatever he called himself had much better and far more resource than she had initially anticipated. It was time for the strategic retreat of the plan.
Rest, regroup and come up with another way to get the information she needed. That was the focus.
She repeated the same experience with her left hand, less painful now that her sluggish body finally responded to the pain by slowly releasing adrenaline into her bloodstream. Knowing to take advantage of the "high" as much as she could, she whipped the IV needle out of her in one swift movement, coming out relatively painlessly. Immediately, she clutched her elbow to her chest to stem the small river of blood that leaked out. It would clot eventually, while she thought about how to free her legs.
She looked at the IV's needle and it might have seemed crazy but it was definitely long enough. Picking it up, she quickly fashioned it into a makeshift lock pick and got to work on her ankle restraints.
