The older woman only allowed him to get close, her eyes still drawn to the outside world that resided behind the sheet of glass. She fumbled with the edges of her blankets as Hatori crossed his arms.
"You never told me that your daughter was still alive." He says, "You told me that you had a miscarriage. Was that another lie?"
She lets out a small laugh. "In what way is that a lie? She really is gone." Her hands trembled as she stared down at her fragile skin, her long nails scratching against the surface to produce thin, red lines. "That moment. . . when I realized what had happened, do you really think I could go back at this point? I will never go back to see her."
"Coming back to her would only destroy what I created."
. . . "Liking Sohma-san makes it sound like I want him to be mine." You said, "I don't like him. . ."
Hatori silently stared at you, listening to the droplets of words that spilled from your lips, "It's selfish to call him mine or to want him."
"She grew up a lot." He squeezed his hands together. "She made a couple of friends at school. Some of them I'm already familiar with. She's been living at a nearby apartment complex by herself and works constantly. I really think you should—"
"And why do you think hearing those words would make me want to see her?" She huffed, her eyes fluttering shut for a moment. Hatori flinched in response to her cold, harsh words. "Whatever you say about her won't change my mind."
He only clicked his tongue as the woman parted her lips. "She's on her own and that is the best life she may ever ask for. I won't allow myself to be a part of that."
"After all these years, you'd think that as her mother you would visit her." He narrowed his eyes, amusing the (h/c) woman whose smile only widened. "What about (F/n)? Has he gone and left her too? What's the relationship between the two of you? What have you done to her?"
She chuckled into the back of her bandaged hand, "What are you talking about Hatori? We've only set her free to live her life as she pleases. The life she is living now is miles better than the one she previously had. Aren't you being selfish right now? I already told you that I won't visit her. Can you stop fooling around at this point? I am honestly disgusted by your behavior."
Hatori suddenly slammed his hand down onto the stand, his body trembling as the woman stopped her rambling. The stand bounced from the strength of his fist, the vase that had contained the blossoming flowers drooped down, their petals slowly falling onto his hand. The surface of his skin was growing hotter, his pupils dilating as he stared at the (h/c) woman with a frustrated expression. This wasn't the first time this had happened.
"What is with that look in your eyes, Hatori?" She frowned, displeased by his reaction. "I've had enough of your jokes. I already told you once, I don't need to repeat it for you."
"How could you be so selfish?" He asked, "I'm only asking you for one thing here and that's to visit your own daughter, the one you told me you were so thankful for having. Have you always been like this? Selfish? Do you only think about yourself? I've been trying to keep in contact with you for years and you suddenly cut me off, saying that you had a miscarriage."
