chapter 16

The next 6 days consisted of Tony telling us about the new years eve party and how it was a karaoke night so anyone could sing. Nat and Wanda hounded me about telling Bucky that I liked him through song and I agreed to it after them hinting at it for 4 days. They were so excited that they took me shopping for new dresses for us that night and they dragged Pepper along too.

Once again we spent the day trying on dresses, picking out shoes and jewellery and then deciding where we were gonna get dressed. I smiled all day but I would be lying if I didn't say I missed my dad, I wished he would come talk to me. As Pepper and Wanda went to get us all some late lunch at the mall, Nat sat next to me and held my hand.

"Hey Zee what's wrong?" she asked.

"I just wish dad would talk to me Nat, I mean I get he is probably mad at me but ignoring me isn't the way to fix this."

"I know sweetie, have you tried to get in contact with him?"

"Yeah but he just ignores me, this happens every time a problem comes up Nat. over the last few years its always the same thing, he runs. He runs back to his perfect family and forgets me and tries to ignore the problems. I'm done trying, I'm just done." I sighed as a tear fells down my cheek.

She wipes it away and gives me a look that she understands, Pepper and Wanda come back with the food and we relax and talk after a long day of shopping.

Happy picks us up from the mall and takes us back to the compound, we all pile into the elevator with our bags and head to Peppers room. We leave our bags in there for later tonight and while Pepper goes to see how the set up is going Nat, Wanda and I go over the song choices for tonight that ill sing too. I was going to sing 2 songs but Nat told me to sing another song that she wants to record me singing, I was suspicious but after hearing the song I knew why. The song perfectly explains how I feel when im not happy, I thanked her for the suggestion and they leave me to practice.

At 6pm Nat came and collected me to get ready, we all helped each other do hair and make up and get into our dresses.

"Girls I do believe we will kill a few men tonight with how good we look" smirked Nat. I laughed at her.

"Okay so I have an idea on how we can enter, I've arranged for the Tony, Steve and Vision to wait at the bottom of the stairs in the party room. We will go down one at a time so everyone can be in awe as we enter, ill go first followed by Nat, Wanda then Zara. Hopefully someone will come to offer her their arm tonight. Sound good?" asked Pepper.

We all nodded in agreement and head to the elevator, when the door opens Pepper walks out first and heads down the stairs. I can just see the guys waiting and the look on Tony's face is shock and awe.

(peppers look)

Nat heads down the stairs next,

(nats look)

Then Wanda,

(wandas look)

All the girls have their arms linked with their guys, I took a deep breath and step out of the elevator and to the stairs. 

(Zaras look)

The room falls silent and I can feel all eyes on me, I scan the room for the one person I want to see. I see Bucky staring at me wide eyed and mouth hanging open, I give him a smile and he quickly walks over to the bottom of the stairs as I come down. He bows and takes my hand, kissing my knuckles.

"You look ravishing doll" he say's in a husky voice, making me shiver. I took in his outfit, he was in black pants and shoes with a dark blue button up shirt and black jacket.

"And you look positively handsome" I reply shyly, earning me a chuckle from him.

He leads me over to the bar and orders us drinks, a coke for me and a rum and coke for him. As we wait for our drinks I glance around and see Nat at the sign up sheet to sing, she looks my way and winks at me signaling that she has signed me name and song choices in order. We get our drinks and head over to Steve who is swapping army stories with Sam.

After about an hour the band announce the first person to sing, after several people have gone up my name gets called. Bucky gives me a shocked look and I just shrug my shoulders and head up to the stage.

Bucky's pov

Zara looked incredible tonight, she looked like an angel in her dress. I was so proud of her when she came out in off the shoulder dress and didn't hide her scar's. My heart started beating faster when she smiled at me, I made my way to her, there was no way I was letting anyone else touch her.

Getting our drinks and relaxing around the others felt nice as long as im with her. When she was called to the stage I was shocked, she hadn't left my side all night but when I saw Nat sneaking out a camera to record she winked at me. This was Nat's doing, I walked up to her.

"What did you do Nat?" I whispered asked her.

"I choose a song that would explain how she feels, Clint cant understand why she would hurt herself so im gonna record her singing it and send it to him." she whispers back.

I nodded to her, its a good plan. Hopefully it works.
