I was walking to meet up with Kirishima for fighting lessons. I was looking down at my phone to change the song and when I looked up I saw familiar red hair in the distance. But there was someone else there too. I sped up a little to see who else was there. Kiri noticed me and waved while calling out my name. I ran up to him and the other person turned around.
I let out a sigh of disappointment and slumped my shoulders.
"What the hell was that for?!"
I elected to ignore the loud baby and turned to Kiri instead.
"Why's he here?"
"He noticed how much better I've gotten at fighting and told me he wanted to know who's been teaching me, so I invited him along! I hope that's okay..."
I couldn't stay mad at the big ball of sunshine he is for too long and told him it was fine. Bakugo, however, was close to foaming at the mouth with rage.
"Are you ignoring me, extra?!"
Small explosions sparked out from his palms. I haven't been at UA for very long but I already know everything I need to know about Bakugo. I haven't even used my quirk on him at all. I know he has a god complex. He thinks he is the strongest person there is and no one can defeat him. He is a bully. He hurts people he thinks might surpass him so they don't. I hate people like that. I was a victim to a bully and I swore to myself it would never happen again.
I glanced at Bakugo with a cold glare then said, "Kiri, you said he wanted to see us fight. Let's get to training."
I started to walk away but felt a hot hand on my shoulder. I was spun around and came face to face with the blond menace.
"I've already seen shitty hair fight. I want to experience you first hand."
"Then fight me bitch."
Baku got that shocked but annoyed look on his face then clicked his tongue before going a few paces back.
We were probably thirty feet apart and just looking at each other.
"Kiri, count us off. Be the ref."
"O-okay, quirks are allowed, don't kill each other. Three, two, one, GO!"
As soon as he said go Bakugo came running at me full boar. Explosions and everything. Mistake.
I lifted one hand and clamped onto his clothes with my telekinesis. I squeezed the material around him and sucked it down to his skin. I lifted him into the air so he couldn't advance anymore.
He was floating in the air five feet from me.
"What the hell! Is that the best you can do?"
He tried to aim explosions at me but I snatched Kiri's headband with my quirk and used it to scoop Bakugo's hands together and tie them above his head.
He was immobilized.
"It's not the best I can do Bakugo. People in Japan are competitive but in America it was either beat or be beaten."
There was a small bit of something in his eyes but it was quickly covered with anger.
"Let me go and show me what you can really do!" He screamed and struggled against his invisible bindings.
"Bakugo, don't you get it? Ive already won. You can't escape. The only way you would be able to beat me is if you were naked or had a quirk that could combat my telekinesis."
"What?! No! I refuse to give up!"
"That's all well and good but I seriously doubt you would be willing to strip just to fight me..."
A blush covered his cheeks and he thrashed around once again. I sighed and moved him to be laying horizontally in the air. I walked over to him so I could see his face as I talked to him.
"You poor soul. Such wasted potential. You know, we're similar, you and I. Both born with powerful quirks, naturally gifted in academics. You took all of the praise to your head. I let it all through one ear and out the other. You put others down and used them to raise yourself to the top. I was put down but used it as a way to get stronger. You took the bad route, and I the good."
"Shut UP!"
Explosions erupted from his tied hands, doing nothing to help him escape.
"Bakugo, you may have talent and strength but it's all wasted of you're going to be an asshole."
At that I put him back on his feet and released my hold on him. I walked over to Kirishima with his headband in my hand. He had his phone in his hand, I assume he had recorded the whole thing.
"Here's this back, sorry I took it."
I stepped closer to the red head and went on my tip toes to tie it back around his head.
He bashfully looked away and thanked me.
I turned around to try and figure out why Bakugo was being so quiet.
He was just standing there, staring at me.
"What, can't handle that I beat you?"
He didn't say anything. Just kept standing there.
I rationalized that he was just angry and deep in thought.
"Kiri, we still haven't sparred yet, do you wanna go no quirks?"
"Sure! I'll count off again."
I took a few steps back and once Kiri counted us off I stayed where I was in a fighters stance. So did Eji.
He's learning.
I decided I would attack first to give him a chance at beating me. I tried to duck under his arms and grab his stomach to try and knock him off his feet but I got a fist slammed down onto my back. I ended up falling to the ground but adjusted my self to I could kick at his legs.
I managed to swipe one of his legs and knock him off balance and was able to get back up.
Kirishima came at me with a few punches that I was barely able to dodge.
"You're getting faster Kiri! That's good!"
I shouldn't have talked. I was distracted and his fist collided with my shoulder joint. The nerves spasmed and my arm went limp. I gasped when my other arm was hit in the bicep. I cried out in pain. I grabbed my dead left arm with my barely functioning right arm and jumped back from Kiri.
I panted and winced in pain.
"Are you okay?! Do we need to stop?"
"NO! The fight isn't over till you've won! That was one of the first things I taught you. You can't ask a villain if they're okay. Keep going!"
Kiri smirked slightly and got into fighting stance once again. This time he ran at me. At the last second I dodged and kicked him in the back like when we fought in the combat training class at the beginning of the year.
I may not have my arms right now but I do have my legs to fight with. My plan didn't last very long when Kiri somehow swiped my legs out from underneath me and picked me up.
He lifted me over his head. I was tired and in pain. I went limp and hung above the spiky red head.
"I win!"
"You win."
"That's the first time I've beaten you!" He exclaimed while lowering me but not putting me down. Instead he put his arms around me and hugged me tight.
"Thank you for training me, Bell. I hope to grow even stronger with your help."
"Heh, you may have beaten me today but I'll kick your butt a few more times before I let you win again."
"Whatever."
We both laughed a little but were interrupted by someone clearing their throat.
I looked over and saw that Bakugo had walked up. He finally decided to move.
"What, wanna fight again? I'd still beat you even if I can't move."
"Bet."
I glared and hoisted him into the air a few feet. But only by the back of his pants.
"ARGH PUT ME DOWN!! THAT HURTS DAMN IT!!!"
I laughed and set him back on his feet.
"Kiri, can you let me talk to Bakugo alone for a minute?"
"Sure thing! I'll be over by the gate when you're done."
He took his arms away from around me and strolled away.
Once he was gone I turned back around to talk to Bakugo.
I turned around and came nose to nose with him. He was leaning down to my height.
"No one my age has ever beaten me in a quirk fight before."
"Maybe that's where all of your ego comes from. Nice to know I could knock you down a peg."
"Why aren't you scared of me?"
"Why don't you try and be more scary? My nightmares are comedies."
"That's insanely hot."
He tried to close the distance between us but I jerked my head back. Slight fear shone in my eyes and my face flushed bright red.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Bakugo paused, then an evil spark shone in his eyes.
"I think I just figured out how to be scary."
"Shit...Do I need to beat you again?"
"Oh you can restrain me anytime you want, teddybear."
I squeaked with embarrassment and turned around. I could feel Bakugo's eyes on me as I ran away.
The next day at school was complete hell.
Bakugo was always coming up to me and complimenting me.
"Your hair looks really nice today, Bell."
"That's a nice drawing you have there. Can I see more?"
"You have such a beautiful smile."
(Remember readers...this boy reads romance manga...it's cannon...)
He even referred to me by my first name a few times. He never does that.
The whole class was giving us odd looks. Bakugo has never acted this way before. Not one nice thing has passed his lips the whole time he's been in this classroom. Which hasn't actually been too long but still.
At lunch I decided to sit with Midoriya so I could avoid the angry boy turned flirty.
"Why has Kacchan been flirting with you, Bell?"
"Well...he came to sparring practice with Kirishima. I fought him and won. He asked me why I wasn't afraid of him and I told him he should try harder to be scary. He said one flirty thing to me and...figured me out..."
"What do you mean?"
I sighed, "Well, I've never had any sort of romantic relationship with someone before. Nobody has ever flirted with me. I'm kinda scared of people openly being affectionate towards me."
"Oh I-"
Izu was cut off when Bakugo walked up to our table. He was holding his lunch in his hands. He glared at Midoriya but turned to me and smiled.
"You've been avoiding me, so I thought I might come eat lunch with you!"
He sat down right next to me and began eating.
I stared at Izuku and gave him the "help me" eyes. I guess he didn't see me or just didn't understand because he made no move to get me away from Bakugo.
The blond put his hand on my knee and leaned down so his mouth was right next to my ear.
"You're really cute when you blush."
As if on cue my cheeks lit up and I shoved his hand off my leg.
"Bakugo, I don't know what kind of game you're playing but it's not cool. If you're going to keep this up I'm going to fight back."
"Oh yeah? How?"
I used my quirk to pin him down completely to the bench. I sent and "I'm sorry" glance at Izuku but he was already furiously reading his hero analysis notebook.
I turned to face Bakugo and put one of my hands on his hip. I trailed that hand slowly up his stomach, up over his chest and then grabbed his face. He was already looking at me with a smirk.
"Like that."
"It doesn't count as fighting back if I like it."
My face fell and I squeaked. My red face grew redder. I wonder how I haven't passed out from all of this blushing.
I immediately released my hold and began devouring my food.
For the rest of the day I was continuously showered with compliments. He even tried to send me a note during class. Aizawa confiscated it and read it in front of everyone. Bakugo had a smug look on his face. I just sunk down into my seat and covered my face with my hands.
Over the next week the same thing kept happening. Everyone in class asked me if we were dating. My answer was always the same, "No, he's just an asshole."
I was walking through the halls one day after school ended but was suddenly pulled into an empty classroom.
I looked up to see who had grabbed me to, not surprisingly, see Bakugo.
His arms were around me and had my arms pinned to my sides.
I sighed, "Bakugo, this is getting old. I've nearly gotten used to it. In a week I'll be fully conditioned. There's no point."
"Then I just have to be even harder on you. Next step of my plan comes in now."
"Huh?"
"I always told myself when I was younger I wouldn't show interest in anyone who couldn't beat me in a fight. You are the first person who has been able to do that. You rendered me helpless. Me."
"What are you trying to say...?"
"I'm saying I want you. I want you to be mine. I'm going to embarrass and romance you till you are."
Butterflies fluttered in my stomach and I felt like I was going to pass out. I shoved his arms away and stepped back a few times.
"Ha-haha, very funny. At first it was annoying, now this is just harassment."
"I'm not joking. I'm going to make you like me."
"Bet boom boom boy."
Then I turned tail and ran out of the classroom.
I somehow managed to avoid Bakugo for a month. He would occasionally shout compliments at me from across the room but other than that I was fairly safe. He would stare at me all the time though.
Kirishima told me that he was constantly asking him questions about me, like my favorite kind of flower or favorite color.
By now we had moved into the dorms. Sometimes I would find little sticky notes on my door telling me I was pretty or that I would have to talk to him at some point.
One day I was chilling in the common room with Mina and Denki when Bakugo walked past.
"Het Bakugo, come here for a second."
"Oh? So you've decided to talk to me finally? Took you long enough."
"All I wanted to say is, you're acting kinda stalkery. You should have given up by now."
"Mmmm we'll see. Patience is a virtue."
He walked away and I shouted, "When have you ever had any patience?!"
He just continued on his way out of the room.
My heart was racing for some reason. I think Mina noticed because she said, "Ketly, do you like him?"
"N-NO! Why?"
Denki cut in with, "Your face is kinda red right now"
I gasped and covered my cheeks.
"They are?"
"Oooo he's starting to get to you huh? Maybe I should call him back in here to romance you some more?"
"AH! Please no!"
They just laughed at me and went back to whatever they were doing.
That night I was in the kitchen getting some snacks. I'm a night owl and don't go to sleep till late at night. I was standing in the pantry trying to decide what to grab when I suddenly felt arms go around my waist and someone's head rest on my shoulder.
"What are you doing up this late?"
I froze. Bakugo's sleepy voice was really attractive. My heart beat faster and I lightly blushed.
"Uh, I'm just looking for some snacks. I don't sleep much."
"But doesn't using your quirk make you tired?"
"Yeah...I take power naps through the day though. I manage."
I was slowly turned around and red eyes looked directly into mine.
"Ketly, that's not healthy. You need sleep. Come on."
He gently held my hand and pulled me to the elevator. A wave of tired suddenly hit me and I was grateful for the weekend. We arrived at a room and I was guided inside. Then I realized it wasn't my room.
"Where-this isn't my room?"
"I brought you to my room. I'm going to watch over you to make sure you get a good sleep."
I was slightly more awake at the thought of sleeping in a boy's room. I looked around, curious as to what he was hiding.
I noticed a small bookshelf and walked over to it. I crouched down and read some of the titles.
"PFFT, is this where you get all of your compliments from? Romance manga? I never thought you the type Bakugo."
I was scooped up out of nowhere and thrown onto the bed.
"NO. I-"
He was standing stiffly in a defensive position in the middle of the room. His cheeks and ears were bright red and some even crawled up his neck.
I decided to get some revenge and pulled him to me with my quirk.
I leaned up so my mouth was next to his ear and whispered, "You're so cute when you blush."
Small pops came from his hands and a sweet aroma came off of him. I remembered that his sweat was basically nitroglycerin and nitro smells like caramel.
"Are you nervous Ba-ku-go?"
"N-no."
I backed away from him and laid down on the bed. I snuggled under the covers and faced him.
"Are you going to sleep too or are you just going to stand there?"
He silently got under the covers with me. I turned away from him and got comfy then said, "goodnight Bakugo."
"Hey, Ketly?"
"Hmm?"
I got no answer so I rolled over.
"What-"
I was cut off when I felt softness on my cheek right next to my mouth.
I stared wide eyed while Bakugo stared right back.
His eyes were hopeful and tired. I studied him for a minute and realized, damn, this boy is cute.
"Are you going to try to not be an asshole to everyone else?"
"Huh? I guess."
"D-do it again."
He looked surprised but smirked. He gently held my face and kissed my forehead, then my cheeks, then my nose, then my eyelids, and then hovered over my mouth.
"I've never kissed someone before."
"Do you want to?"
"Is it scary?"
"Are you scared?"
"Yes."
He closed the space between us. My adrenaline spiked and it felt like my heart was about to explode and his lips were barely grazing mine. For a boy with such a bad temper I would have thought he'd be more rough. But he was quite the opposite.
He carefully propped himself up so he was hovering above me. His right hand stayed on my cheek while his left gently cupped my shoulder. I held his bicep with my right hand and put my left up on his chest. I could feel his heart beating and i think he was feeling the same way as me.
Bakugo pulled away and stared into my eyes.
"I never thought you would have this side to you, Bakugo."
"There's a lot you don't know about me. And please, call me Katsuki."
