Alex
When we got to the "secret" headquarters, we had a very... odd encounter with Megan who I found out was Gavin's sister. She started talking really fast as she dragged me off on a tour of the house, which was more of a mansion. We excited the lobby area and entered the hall leading to the elevator.
As we walked. I noticed that everything here looked so fancy and neat. I mean, I thought they were runaways like me, so why do they look like they are just ordinary citizens who are part of the highest class? The carpets in the rooms looked like they were velvetly smooth and every door was polished wood. When you walk in the halls, you could hear your footsteps echo across the entire length of this place. The smooth marble as the floors met several marble columns as we walked. And there were glassy crystal chandeliers. Everything in this place looked like it was fresh out of a magazine that I read when I got bored. It looked like an old kind of house. The kind that people from the warring times would live in, but no one has occupied one of those abandoned houses since 100 years ago.
Anyways, through all my thoughts I heard Megan mention the word girlfriend again like she did before when she was teasing Gavin in the hallway. I quickly snapped out of my thoughts and realized we walked straight into the elevator. I turned to look at Megan who was staring right back at me with a smirk on her face. It might have been my lack of sleep, or maybe the lighting, but her smirk was scaring me.
I wonder if Gavin and her have the same smirk since they are related. Wait! Why am I thinking about him!?
As if knowing exactly what I was thinking, Megan's smirk widened, as if this was possible, considering she looked like the Cheshire Cat to me. I decided to act dumb and pretend I wasn't just thinking of her brother.
He's just a person. Practically a stranger who also tackled me to the ground! I mean that's rude! Right?
I needed to screw my head on straight and focus on the fact that for all I could know, he could be a complete jerk or a serial killer for all I care! And maybe Quinn is actually into poetry! Who cares! I just needed to focus on what's happening now.
All of a sudden I was taken out of my thoughts by the sound of a high pitched ring. I realized we got to the floor that Megan was trying to drag me to. I took a quick look around, and realized it was a gym.
In the gym was a tall, slender girl hitting the punching bag. She had flame colored hair that flew out with every jab she took at the bag. I almost felt sorry for that training bag. She seemed to be around the same skin tone as Quinn, but when she turned around I saw that her eyes were clear sky blue, signifying that she was also part of the middle class.
Megan and I approached the girl standing there. I watched as Megan snuck up on the girl and shouts in her ear, "HI KAYLEE!"
The girl who's name I now knew to be Kaylee turned and shrieked.
After her initial shock, the girl replied, "Meg! What are you doing here? Don't you have to show the newbies around?"
I watched as Kaylee and Megan talked. I got lost in my thoughts about how big this place was until I heard my name mentioned. I turned to see them both staring at me. "Did I miss something?" I asked sheepishly.
Megan looked like she was trying to hold back a laugh while Kaylee just looked at me like I was joking.
"You were zoned out for quite a bit," explained Kaylee, in a noticeably quieter voice than when she'd been eagerly chatting with Megan. "You're Alex, I see. I'm Hunter, Kaylee Hunter. You can call me whichever you prefer."
I nodded, "Nice to meet you." I look at the punching bag that Kaylee was just hitting. "You're a good fighter."
Kaylee smiled, "Thanks, I try to be a better fighter."
Megan laughed, "You have got to be kidding me! You're an awesome fighter!"
Kaylee smiles, "Yeah but I still want to be better."
I looked at them following the conversation back and forth and smiling at how well they got along.
I wish I still had friends like that.
I smiled sadly at the thought. I realized I was now looking down at the floor and quickly looked to see that Megan and Kaylee were deep in conversation. All of a sudden, I heard a deep rumbling sound. I took quick look around and noticed that the two of them were looking at me. I just now noticed that I hadn't eaten since yesterday when I ran. I smiled sheepishly and the two of them gave me a knowing smile.
Megan was the one to finally speak up and disturb the silence, "Kaylee, how about you show our guest to the kitchen."
Kaylee rolled her eyes. "You're just being a lazy bum." She said with a smirk.
Megan rolled her eyes, "I just wanna do some training! Is that so wrong?"
Kaylee sighed. "Fine. To the second floor we go."
On our walk to the elevator, I found out the gym was on the 4th floor so all we had to do was go down 2 floors to the kitchen.
Man, this place is huge.
The elevator finally came and we stepped inside. All of a sudden a voice from the opposite side of the elevator spoke up. "How's the tour going?"
I spun around to see who said that, and guess who was there? Yup, Gavin. I shrugged good I guess." I looked around and noticed, just as the doors were closing, that Kaylee had left me in the elevator while she walked back to the training room.
I turned to see a smirking Gavin, "What?" He questioned. "Are you trying to run away from me or something?" He said after noticing me glance towards the now closed doors.
I shook my head. "How am I suppose to when the doors are closed?"
He shrugged, "Fair enough."
Oh boys. This is going to be a long elevator ride.
