Gavin
Quinn and I were out on our nightly round to scout the city for runaways that could join our team. It usually isn't hard to find runaways on the street, but it had rain earlier so the runaways might have been hiding or in their makeshift shelters.
We had to be fast when finding the runaways, before the city gets to them, and kill them off.
You see, the society that run the city believe that this city needs to be perfect. But perfect doesn't exist. A lot of the times, bad things happen but no one ever heard about the incidents happening. An example would be the runaways. They ruin the system the society has created over a hundred years, and they are the main problem for the society. Most of the time, kids don't get along with their parents and they don't listen to the rules.
Apparently this has happened in the past. Anyways, the city doesn't like the idea of having anything out of place, especially if it's a bunch of kids running away from their homes. It shows the people that the society can't handle a way to take care of kids or to keep order. And the society of Thálassa doesn't like that one bit. So if a child runs away from home, and doesn't return before the next day, the society kills the runaway and erases the memories of their existence from everywhere, everyone, and everything.
We continued to walking down the streets, acting casual so we wouldn't draw attention from the society's authorities, as we looked around for runaways to help and bring them with us to headquarters. From experience, Quinn and I walked towards the closest alley to see if we could find any runaways. We walked into the front and hide a little bit away from the light before saying anything.Quinn turned and looked at me with the serious look he always had when we were away from headquarters. "What's the point in doing this?" he complained, "It's not like we're going to find anyone out here tonight." He seemed on edge more than usual when we're scout for runaways.
"Because", I said in a calm voice, "We made a promise that we would one day get enough people safe and ready for what's next to come. You and I both know what's coming next."
For a moment, we both stayed silent, not wanting to say what was to happen sooner or later. We needed more time, more people, and all the supplies possible to win the battle we we're fighting against. We knew what was to come, and we didn't like to talk about it more than we had to.
All of a sudden, something fell into our line of vision and on instinct, Quinn and I pull out our guns and aim them at the person who fell. As soon as we held our guns up everything went still. It's a girl? what's she doing in an alley?
And as if reading my mind, Quinn said, "Who are you and what are you doing here?""Yeah!" I agreed, "And what are you doing in an alley?"
"Me?" she said annoyed, "What are you people doing in an alley?"
Quinn and I shared a glance that said the same thing as what the other person though.
She's a runaway.
The girl in front of us had long dark brown hair that was slightly wavy. She had a slight tan but was pretty pale but she looked like she's been busy running around to care tanning. What really caught my attention was her eyes. They were blue, like mine.
"Fine", I finally said, "come with us and we'll tell you what you want to know. Then you can tell us what we want to know. Deal?"
She didn't seem to be convinced by my offer. "Oh yeah?" she questioned, "And if I don't? Then what are you going to do?" she smirked and raised an eyebrow.
"Oh for god's sake! Let's just get to the point Gavin!" Quinn said impatiently, "I'm Quinn and blondie locks over there is Gavin."
"Okay," she said skeptically, "I'm Alexa, but people call me Alex sometimes. It doesn't matter." she shrugged.
I shot an annoyed look at Quinn,"Well great, now that the introductions are all done, let's go to headquarters." I said.
She looked at us questioningly but said nothing except, "Fine,I'll go, but I won't promise to tell you anything.""Fine by me" said Quinn.
And we started walking to the headquarter with an new addition to our team, and I had a good feeling about Alexia. She was different than the other, and it was interesting to be bringing her to the rest of the team. I had a feeling she was going to get along with us all nicely.
