Alexia
It was a dark, cold night, even for the city of Thálassa, which had just reached early winter. It was especially dark in the shadow of the alley I was hiding in. The ground was covered with millions of puddles from the rain last night. The metallic, yet forest like smell that hung in the air, was a clear sign that the rain finally stopped. The wind blew strong for evening in this place but it wasn't strong enough to muffle the sound of footsteps coming this way, I could hear them. My heart began to beat, hard against my chest as the person came closer. Even from my hiding spot, I can see the person's shadow dance across the walls of the alley.
I stay in my hiding spot, not sure whether the person coming was the authorities that have come to take me back to the place I used to call home, or a normal person on a walk, minding their own business. That one person turned out to be two people as the shadows split and the people began to talk. I peeked across the corner of the object I was hiding behind to see if I could get a better look at people who are standing in the alley. My long hair whipped into my face as I turned but I just brush it away so I can see. Both of the people standing in front of the entrance to the alley, made no attempt at all to hide themselves.
I couldn't clearly hear what they were saying but at least I could see them. It was hard to make out what they looked like but they were pretty casual looking for kids walking around at night my age. They looked like they were about sixteen or seventeen, around the same age and height, but their appearances showed that they were complete opposite. One guy had dark brown hair that looked like it had been gelled up into mohawk. He was paler than his friend but still had a slight tan. He wore dark clothing; leather jacket, black pants, and a black T-shirt. Everything about him gave off a "bad boy" attitude. He looked nothing like the other boy. The other one had a golden tan and blonde ruffled hair. He wore brighter, more colorful clothes; mostly blue and green. They dressed like outsides but I could tell tell they were from this society, their eyes were a dead giveaway.
If you live in this city, then the society would have given you a certain eye color depending on what class you are part of, as a way to distinct their own people from outsiders. If you're part of the highest class, the society makes your eyes green. If your were the middle class, they make your eyes blue, and if you were part of the lowest class, they make your eyes orange. The blonde's eyes were the same as mine: blue. The "bad boy" had green.
I took a step forward to get a closer look of the people standing in the alley, so I leaned out a little from my hiding spot but slipped into a puddle and fell on the floor a few inches where I was hiding from. Uh oh...This can't be good. The people turned to see me. They pulled out guns, ready to fire if I did something to provoke them.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" said the "bad boy".
"Yeah!" asked the blonde one, "And what are you doing in an alley?"
"Me? What are you people doing in an alley?" I say, not really sure how much I should tell these two.
They seem to be having the same idea as they glanced at each other as if coming to a silent agreement. They lowered their guns and the blonde decided to speak.
"Fine, come with us and we'll tell you what you want to know. Then you can tell us what we want to know. Deal?" He seemed more relaxed in his stance and actually welcoming. But I decided to be the opposite.
"Oh yeah?" I questioned, "And if I don't? Then what are you going to do?" I smirked and raised an eyebrow.
The "bad boy" seemed to be getting impatient, "Oh for god's sake! Let's just get to the point Gavin!" He sighed, "I'm Quinn and blondie locks over there is Gavin."
"Okay," I say skeptically, "I'm Alexia, but people call me Alex. It doesn't matter." I shrug.
Gavin seemed offended that Quinn would call him "blondie locks", but he shook his shocked expression off and decided to speak, "Well great, now that the introductions are all done, let's go to headquarters."
I looked at them questioningly but decide to shake my head instead of bothering with questions, "Fine,I'll go, but I won't promise to tell you anything."
"Fine by me" said Quinn.
Gavin softened his expression and smiled at me while Quinn showed a stiff expression that was secretly telling me, "You better be worth the trouble or else."
And like that, we left the dark alley to the "secret headquarters" that I was going to with some strangers I met in an alley. Yup, this was going to be a weirder day then it already was.
