Impatience drove Hyunjin towards the door, his eagerness to resume his culinary duties outweighing any social niceties. With a swift motion, he swung the door open, his attention already drifting back to the kitchen before fully registering the presence of Chan and Y/n standing before him. Chan offered a sheepish apology to Y/n for his friend's abruptness, to which she simply shrugged off with a reassuring smile. "Come on in. Vague food crisis," Hyunjin explained, gesturing for them to enter as he busied himself with the task at hand.
Taking the opportunity to showcase his manners, Chan extended his hand, inviting Y/n to step into the apartment first. Her gratitude and the sweet smile that followed were like balm to his soul, momentarily dispelling the lingering tension.
Together, Chan and Y/n traversed the corridor, their footsteps echoing softly against the walls. As they approached the kitchen, Seungmin's voice floated out, accompanied by the clink of wine glasses. "Hiya... sorry... the guinea fowl is proving more complicated than expected," Seungmin remarked, his casual demeanor belying the chaos unfolding in the kitchen.
"He's cooking guinea fowl?" Chan echoed incredulously, exchanging a bemused glance with Y/n.
"Don't even ask," Seungmin replied with a wry smile, his gaze fixed on his wine glass.
Seeking reassurance, Y/n looked to Chan for encouragement, prompting him to nod in affirmation, silently urging her to introduce herself. "H-Hi," she stammered, her voice tinged with nervousness.
"Hi-Good Lord!-" Seungmin's exclamation cut through the air as he turned, nearly spilling his wine in the process. Chan swiftly intervened, introducing Y/n before the situation could escalate further. "Seungmin... this is Y/n."
"R-Right!" Seungmin stammered, his eyes widening in recognition as he gazed at Y/n, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Okay. Crisis over," Chan let out a nervous sigh when Hyunjin returned from the kitchen, oven mitts in hand. Once again, Chan took the opportunity to introduce Y/n amidst the heavy silence that hung in the air. "Hyunjin. This is Y/n."
"Oh, hello there Y/n-" Hyunjin's greeting faltered as he caught sight of Y/n's familiar face, his tone dropping an octave as recognition dawned. "...Scott- Ah, um. Would you like wine?"
Accepting the offer graciously, Y/n's nerves seemed to dissipate slightly, only to be replaced by a fresh wave of anxiety as the doorbell rang once more. As Hyunjin hurried off to greet the new arrivals, Y/n cast a nervous glance around the unfamiliar surroundings.
Meanwhile, Seungmin and Chan engaged in a silent exchange, their expressions conveying a myriad of unspoken sentiments as they navigated the awkwardness of the moment.
At the door stood Chan's brother, Yongbok, known affectionately as Felix. With a warm smile, Hyunjin greeted them, though his expression betrayed a hint of uncertainty. "Yes, Happy Birthday," he offered before leading them down the corridor.
Reentering the living room, Felix's reaction was nothing short of dramatic. "Hi guys. -Oh, holy fuck," he exclaimed, his astonishment evident as his gaze fell upon Y/n.
Returning the greeting with her warmest smile, Y/n found herself at ease despite the unexpected attention. "Lix... this is Y/n. Y/n... this is Yongbok, or Felix, much easier... he's my baby brother," Chan explained, breaking the tension with a hint of amusement.
As Felix regained his composure, he addressed Y/n with a flurry of words, his excitement palpable. Y/n, amused by his enthusiasm, played along, matching his tone with a lighthearted response. "Um... I think that sounds, you know, lucky me. Happy Birthday!"
