CHAPTER 03,
Troll in the Dungeons!
(Does He Want Us Dead?)
──────────
october, 1991

MIKAELA AND WOOD BEING paired up for a Potions assignment was not a coincidence that Snape hadn't planned. Everyone knew it.

When it comes to Hogwarts, everybody knows that Mikaela and Wood dislike each other. It's natural. He's a Gryffindor; she's a Slytherin. They both play quidditch. And they're both Keepers. They're rivals for more than one reason, and it has been shaping their relationship for years.

But, if there is anybody who Mikaela would claim hates her more, she would say that person is Severus Snape. Not everyone knows of it, besides people who have ever shared a Potions class with the girl. But, considering that man hates Gryffindors almost as much as he hates Mikaela for being Aster Song's niece, he doesn't have a problem with making Mikaela suffer as Wood's partner. And vice versa.

Now, being paired up with Wood had many problems. So, let's mention some: (A) they both hate each other; (B) they don't want to work together; (C) they are unable to find a single thing they could possibly agree on; and (D) they both have quidditch practices at different times, which always seem to come in the way of any possible times they could meet up.

(Especially since both practice more and more for their upcoming match against one another.)

So, outside of Potions class, the two have not worked out a single thing together. Meaning that their essay is barely in its beginning phase, and they should be glad to have at least the title and opening paragraph written (they've the bare minimum of that, too).

Even Natalie and Kim have more work done than them, and that says a lot. Robin and Percy Weasley have the whole essay finished already. (Although Robin didn't have much of a say in it as she tried not to murder the Weasley boy on the spot.)

And it's due by the end of November.

Currently, Mikaela is on her way to the library. Lia was kind enough to tell her that the Gryffindor team didn't have quidditch practice today, and she might find Wood there.

Seeking out Oliver Wood goes against the Song girl's skin, but she must deal, if she wants to write an essay that would deserve at least a passable mark - an A.

She has to zigzag through the library, between shelves upon shelves of books, finding Wood in a secluded corner with his nose buried in a book. She can see only a bit of its page, but it isn't hard to guess it's about quidditch strategy.

"That won't help you win the match next month," she says matter-of-factly, hugging her Potions books, a backpack thrown over one shoulder.

Despite controlling her mind reading abilities, she catches onto the quiet bloody hell in Wood's mind as he startles, getting his head out of the quidditch book. He turns to the girl that interrupted him, confusion on his features as he wonders why she approached him. Then he registers her Potions books and frowns.
