Jaylin's POV
I opened my eyes to the sound of children screaming and laughing. I sat up in my bed and grabbed the water bottle from my night stand and took a drink. I got up and put my hair in a bun and walked downstairs to the kitchen.
A girl who looked about my age was in the kitchen. She's probably a new foster chld. I saw my foster mom making breakfast. She was cooking bacon and eggs. “Hey, is there anything you want me to do?” I asked. “ Yea you could set the table and call the kids down for breakfast, Jaylin?” My foster mom said as she continued to cook.
I nooded and got down the plates. I set the table then called the kids to the table. I ran upstairs to get ready for school before I ate breakfast. After I was all done getting dressed, I ran downstairs to eat but I guess I wasn’t keeping track of the time because, when I got downstairs the school bus was already outside the house. I grabbed my backpack and ran out of the door followed by 10 children under the age of 8.
As I got on the bus, I greeted the bus driver and sat in my usual spot in the back. As the bus stopped at every stop, I looked out my window and dreaded going back home.
My foster house is very large so sometimes, the older kids get stuck doing all the chores. Since I was the oldest, I was usually the one who did all the housework. My foster mother was never home in the evening because of her job. My foster father normally didn’t want anything to do with us kids so he stayed on the bedroom watching T.V and sleeping. So everyday after school, I had to clean the house while the little kids played in the backyard.
Then I had to cook dinner while I bathed all the children, and sometimes Benjamin who is 8 years old will help me bathe the babies while the kids aged 5 and up took their baths. Then I would call all the kids down for dinner. The kids ate while I fed the babies. Then after dinner, I would put a movie on in the living room and have the kids watch that while I put the babies to bed. When the babies were in bed, I would tuck the kids in bed. After all the little kids were asleep, I would take dinner up to my foster father.
Most of the time he was happy with what I made, but sometimes, he would get really mad and I would have to make him a whole new meal. After everyone was fed, I sit down and eat my dinner and then do my homework.
I would get in the shower after I ate dinner. Then I would run downstairs to the babies room and make a bed on the floor just so if one of the babies wake up, I will be right there. Around 3 in the morning, my foster mom would get home and wake me up and tell me to go into my room.
I would sleep for the rest of the night until 7:05. Then I repeat my morning system. I woke up from my thoughts when the bus stopped in front of the school. I walked off the bus and into the cafeteria with the other kids.
