"Is it done?""No, not yet. The colour's not right."
"Should I fry it a bit more?"
"Yeah. About 1 more minute for each side should be fine."
"Okay. Got it...."
"Kou-chan, flip it now! This instant!"
"Wait! I'm doing it! I'm doing it!"
"Whew. Now it looks perfect."
"Heh. Nana, the perfectionist. But seriously cooking's so tiring."
"What're you talking about? It's fun!"
"Yes. Yes. I'll get the crockeries."
"Ah! I'll help you choose. Food's more appetizing when served beautifully! Hehe."
"Haha. Alright, come."
.........
................
........................"Garnish it a bit with this. And.... Done! Wow! Kou-chan, you say that you don't like to cook but you do it really well!" Nana said cheerfully and clapped her hands.
"Thanks but it's only because you're a good teacher. You give instructions really well." I said and glanced at the Katsudon I made following Nana's recipe.
It looks really delicious. I never would've imagined making it by myself. I would never even try. But I had to do it this time because it was her wish.
"Aww. Thanks. Let's hurry up and take it to Ojii-chan! It's almost his lunchtime." Nana said as she skipped her way towards the entrance excitedly.
But my emotions were far different than hers. I picked up the basket in which I neatly placed the food and headed out.
Nana's second wish was to make her Ojii-chan's favourite dish which was Katsudon one last time. She used to make it often for him especially when he was mad.
No, that wasn't right. As far as I recalled, he was always moody.
Nana's Ojii-chan... How should I describe it?Yeah, he was a grumpy old man with a bad temper. Well, at least he had always shown me one. He hated my guts.
He probably thought of me as a nasty bug flying around his precious granddaughter. That's why I was scared. Scared that he was right about me. Scared that I was as bad as he thought or even worse. Scared because I didn't know how to face him as the guilt of taking away his only family drowned me....
I wanted to run away.
"Kou-chan?"
Pulled out of my thoughts, I looked at Nana who was waving her hand in front of my face.
"Y-yeah?"
"What're you doing spacing out like that? Anyway, we're here."
Ah, we reached Nana's home already. Well, it was just the house beside ours so of course, it wouldn't have taken long. What was I hoping for?
"I missed this place! Home sweet home. I'm home!" Nana exclaimed while jumping around the garden in the front.
I also stared at it. A beautiful garden with colourful and sweet-smelling flowers. Nana's Ojii-chan tended to it as a hobby.
I must say no matter how temperamental he was, he sure did know how to take good care of his garden.
