Birthday Planning

We arrived at Needy's quite early and I gave her a quick text saying that we had arrived. As soon as I had sent the message, I saw her front door open and she was stood there with a bright smile. I nudged Colin and pointed to Needy who was now waving at us. I got out of the car and made my way over to her, we hugged for a moment and I smiled at her.
"Hi! Thanks for coming, you guys. I really needed the help."
She laughs and Colin comes up behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders.
I turn round to him and frown a little.
"You're making me feel insecure about my height, sir. Do you mind?"
He laughs, followed by Needy giggling quietly. I roll my eyes and chuckle as we all walk through the door.

Needy brings us to her kitchen where she had 3 chairs set up and a bunch of notes all spread out on the table.
"Sorry it's a little messy.."
"Awh no, it's okay really."
I sit down at the table and look at all the sheets of paper labelled ideas.
"Do you guys want a drink of something?"
Needy asks, as she walks over to open the refrigerator. I look over at Colin and he nods.
"Yeah sure! What do you have?"
Needy begins to rummage through her small refrigerator and gets out a pack of juice cartons, placing them on the table in front of us.
"Take your pick!"
She adds before turning back round and shutting the refrigerator door.
I look at all the labels on each carton. There was cherry, apple, orange, mango, grape and cranberry. Colin reached into the packet and takes out a carton and I take out another before poking a hole in the top of it with a straw and taking a sip. I feel the cold liquid travel down my throat and it makes my spine shiver a little.

Needy sits down and looks up at us both.
"So! As you can see, I have a few ideas already."
"I see a lot more than a few here, Needy."
We all chuckle at my insinuation as we stare at the many pages of paper sprawled out everywhere. Colin picks up a piece and reads it, his facial expression tells me that the idea written down wasn't a good one.
"You were gonna take him to the food court at the mall? Really?"
Needy nods her head sheepishly.
"That place is not great, take it from me. I went there recently, like a few weeks ago, and I wouldn't stop throwing up for 3 days. The smell kinda lingered in my house for a while, honestly it smelt like a dog's-"
I stop Colin by shoving him gently. He looks at me confused and then hangs his head a little.
"TMI Colin. We're here to talk party planning, not about how your immune system couldn't handle your food."
I have to admit, I sounded a little mean saying that to him but honestly I was about to throw up if he would've finished his sentence.

"Maybe this one then?"
Needy says as she slides a paper over to me. I read it and it seemed like a good idea actually.
"The Cheesecake Factory? Is that a place he likes to go?"
"Yeah, that's why I kinda put a star in the corner because it my favourite one."
"What about this one though, it's also got a star on it."
Colin hands me another page and I look at it, comparing both pages in my hands.
"He likes Genesis?"
I question Needy as Chip didn't seem to be someone who would like that band.
"Yeah, he keeps going about this person called Phil Collins so I kinda researched it and yeah they're playing a gig on Chip's birthday nearby."
I raise my eyebrows. That sounds pretty cool, I'm sure he'd like it. I glance over at Colin who was on his phone, I move closer to him and I see that he was searching times for the Cheesecake Factory opening hours. He looks up at me and smiles, then looks to Needy.
"Hey Needy, what time and day is this Genesis gig happening?"
"It's happening on his birthday, this Friday."
Colin glances back down at his phone then looks back up.
"There's a fun thing for couples happening at the Cheesecake Factory at 2pm where you create your own cheesecake together. Would you and Chip be into something like that?"
Needy's eyes light up and smiles.
"Colin that is amazing, fusing both things he likes into one day will be awesome. It'll be a birthday he'll never want to forget!"
"We'll I'm glad we could help, this only took 30 minutes and half a juice carton."
We all laugh followed by a sigh.
"Well thanks to you both for stopping by, I really couldn't have done any of it without you two."
I nod and stand up, making my way to the front door.
"It was our pleasure."
Colin smiles at Needy and turns to me. We both walk out to the car and Needy stands in the doorway, ready to wave us off. I lean back in the car seat and sigh. For some reason I just felt so exhausted even though we hardly did anything today. I sit up as the car starts up and I wave at Needy who was still waiting for us to leave. She waves back and Colin turns the music on like usual. Ambulance by My Chemical Romance begins to play and we speed off down the road.

After a while of driving, I hear Colin curse under his breath.
"Shit-"
"What is it?"
"I missed the turning, it's alright though I'll just turn down this street."
"Okay, just don't get us lost"
I chuckle and look out the window. Hang on. I recognise this street. It's-
I see a woman standing outside on the sidewalk. That woman was my mother. We made eye contact through the glass and her eyes widen.

"Colin DRIVE FASTER."
I shout and he obeys. The car speeds up down the road. Of course the one street he decides to turn down was mine.
"Was that your street?"
"Yes!!"
"Fuck- did your mom see us?"
My shoulders raise and I gulp.
"Yup.."
Colin exhales and he parks the car on a side street next to his house, I assume he parked the car there so that if my mom were to catch the registration plate, she wouldn't find the car too easily. I rush out of the car and to his front door, he follows closely behind and unlocks the door.
"Upstairs!"
He points and raises his voice slightly. I run upstairs and to his room, as I enter I sit down in his bed. He enters the room and shuts the door before sitting down next to me and cuddling close.
"I'm not gonna let your mom take you from me, as mean as that sounds I just really love you and cannot bare to see you leave."
"You're serious?"
"Yup. If need be we can move away, just us."
"And live on our own?"
"Of course, we're both capable of that sort of thing right?"
"Um- yeah!"
Colin looks me in the eyes and kisses my forehead. He goes in to kiss my lips but stopped by a loud banging on the front door. The noise from the door made me guess that whoever was there, was in a bad mood...
