Chapter 9

Kurapika, Leorio, Gon, and Killua all head over to where Hisoka said they could find Dr. Ikeda.

"Look at this place. It's a dump." says Killua.
"Yeah, it's definitely not where I had expected to find him." agreed Kurapika.

They all approach an old abandoned hospital.

"Well, let's go inside," says Leorio.

They walk up the stairs that lead to the entrance. The door creaks open. The old hospital is dark and the air feels thick. There is a feeling of negative energy that they notice right away.

"Where do we go? This guy can be anywhere." mentions Leorio.
"Right up there." Kurapika points to where he senses Dr. Ikeda.

They walk up the stairs. They stop when they hear moans and screams.

"What the hell?" asks Killua.
"Yeah, what kind of place is this?" Gon asks.

They walk down the hallway.

"Oh my! That smell! It's disgusting!" exclaims Gon while holding his nose.
"It smells like dead bodies!" says Killua.

While they walk down the hall, they notice the screams are coming from the old patient rooms. Leorio steps into one of the rooms.

"What the hell!" exclaims Leorio while jumping back out of the room.
"What is it, Leorio?" asks Kurapika.

The room is barely lit. There is a ripped curtain hanging next to the door. The smell of death is even stronger. Kurapika walks in and quickly jumps back.

"What the hell is it?" asks Killua, growing inpatient.

Killua walks in. His body freezes at the sight. Gon follows his friend into the room and is overcome by fear. They slowly walk back out. All four of them stand outside of the room, eyes wide and filled with fear. Inside the room is a human figure wearing a hospital gown. The skin covering its body is burnt. Its face is long with sunken eyes. It is restrained to the bed.

"Help us! Help us!" begs the patient.

Kurapika, Leorio, Gon, and Killua slowly continue to walk down the hall. None of them say a word. The moans are getting louder. It appears that each room has a different patient inside. The four of them reach a large desk at the end of the hall. It looks like they walked into a waiting room. There was a lady dressed in scrubs sitting at the desk. She sees the four of them approaching and smiles.

"Oh, hello! Please sign in. The doctor will see you shortly." she says, happily.

"What the hell is going on here? I demand to see the doctor now!" Kurapika demands.
"Sir, I apologize, however, you will need to sign in and have a seat. I'm sorry for the delay, but the doctor is with a patient at the moment. You will need to wait your turn." she explains while handing Kurapika a clipboard.
"The hell I do!" says Kurapika while throwing the clipboard on the floor, shattering it.

Kurapika can sense Dr. Ikeda's aura. He follows it into what appears to be an operating room. There is a patient on the table.

"Ahhh, Kurapika! I see you have found my private practice. I do wish you would have waited your turn. You see, Miss Akemi here ran to me complaining of a broken heart so I am trying to mend it for her. I do specialize in hearts." Dr. Ikeda explains.
"Bastard!" exclaims Kurapika.
"Kurapika!" Akemi sits up on the table, blood on her chest.

Leorio, Gon, and Killua enter the operating room to check on Kurapika.

"Damn, what is going on here?" asks Killua.
"That doctor. He did this to all of those people. Making them sick and then trying to heal them with his nen." explains Leorio, angrily.
"With his nen?" asks Gon.
"Yes." answers Leorio.
"Hey, isn't that Kurapika's girlfriend on that table?" asks Killua.
"Dammit! Kurapika, don't do anything reckless!" yells Leorio.
"Emperor Time." says Kurapika, the color of his eyes are now scarlet.
"Kurapika!" yells Leorio.
"This is between me and Dr. Ikeda." says Kurapika back to Leorio.

Kurapika walks closer to where Dr. Ikeda is standing.

"I demand you let her go!" yells Kurapika to Dr. Ikeda.
"You see, I can not do that. I have not finished closing her up yet. You interrupted us. If I don't finish, she might bleed out and die. I will need you to take your friends and leave right away." explains Dr. Ikeda.
"The hell I will!" says Kurapika.
"I warned you." Dr. Ikeda says to Kurapika while filling a syringe with nen.

Dr. Ikeda throws the nen syringe at Kurapika, stabbing his chest. Kurapika immediately falls to the ground, coughing up blood.

"Kurapika!" yells Leorio while running to Kurapika.
"What the hell did you do to him?" Leorio asks Dr. Ikeda.
"He wouldn't listen so I injected him with a terrible lung disease. I suggest you remove him before I do the same to the rest of you." answers Dr. Ikeda while filling another nen syringe.

Leorio carries Kurapika out of the operating room. Gon and Killua follow them. Leorio sits Kurapika down on a chair in the waiting room. Kurapika continues to cough up blood and is short of breath. The lady from the desk approaches them.

"I told him to sign in and wait his turn. The doctor does not like to be interrupted." explains the lady.
"Hey, get the hell out of here!" yells Leorio.
"May I offer you a room since he will now be a patient here?" asks the lady.
"Hell no! He is not a patient!" screams Leorio.
"I offered. He would be more comfortable on a bed." the lady says while walking away.
"Kurapika!" Leorio tries to make Kurapika comfortable while handing him a handkerchief to cough in.
"What do we do now? That guy is really dangerous." asks Killua.
"I don't know." answers Leorio, frustrated.
Gon is standing in the waiting room, deep in thought. He really wants to help Kurapika.

"We just need to avoid those syringes. Should be easy enough." says Gon, ready to fight.
"Yeah, but what about Kurapika? He'll die if we don't find him an antidote." explains Killua.
"Right." says Gon in a fighting stance.

The lady walks back to them.

"I said leave us alone!" yells Leorio.
"I want to tell you where to find the antidote for your friend." she says.
"What? Tell us!" demands Leorio, holding onto Kurapika.
"There is a vial filled with a red liquid. It is on the instrument tray next to the operating table." the lady explains.
"And how do we know it's not just more poison?" asks Leorio.
"That's all we have to go by." explains Killua.
"Right. So one of us needs to distract the doctor while the other one grabs the antidote." says Gon.
"Leorio, you stay here with Kurapika. I'll get the antidote while Gon, you distract the doctor." explains Killua.
"Right!" says Gon.

Kurapika's condition is worsening. He has dark circles around his now black eyes. He can barely breathe.

"Hurry!" yells Leorio.

The boys ran back into the operating room.
