They arrived back at camp with a small amount of woodland creatures dangling from their jaws. Hawkwing hurried to bring her catch to the queen's in the nursery while Brambleberry brought his to the elders. But no matter how hard he tried, they would not take the prey.

"I will not take prey that can be used to strengthen younger cats to help them survive." Dewfoot rasped, her blue eyes shining as she turned her head away from the prey. Brambleberry looked at the rest of the elders as they muttered agreement. He sighed and turned around to see Toadleap padding over.

"What's wrong?" The black and brown tom asked. He was staring at the elders with worried emerald eyes. Brambleberry flicked his tail at them and stared down at the prey that he caught. Two small mice and a finch. They were small, but they were also prey.

"The elders won't eat because they want younger warriors to have strength." He mewed. Toadleap frowned at this and stepped towards the prey, nudging it towards the elders.

"Please, eat something. There is plenty more prey that we can catch. Us youngsters will be fine." He mewed gently. Dewfoot hesitated before she dipped her head and slowly bit into the mouse. She wrinkled up her nose as she chewed, but endured the taste nonetheless. Brambleberry stared at Toadleap with shock. He was able to convince stubborn elders to do something.

Suddenly, there was a screech of shock from behind the nursery and half the cats of the clan rushed towards the sound. They saw Hawkwing sprint after Brightface towards the stream. Brambleberry felt his stomach twist with worry for the brown she-cat. As the clan got to where the two she-cats were, the ice was broken up, showing cracks of water, and they found Brightface wailing for something with Riverkit tucked by her back leg. Hawkwing set down Pebblekit and whipped around, searching the waters for Snowkit. A small white and grey tabby pelt appeared, but then disappeared beneath the dark blue water.

"SNOWKIT!" Brightface wailed. Riverkit shivered and buried her face into her mother's fur while Pebblekit looked up at Hawkwing.

"Where's Snowkit?" He chirped. Hawkwing stared at Brightface sadly and shook her head before nudging the small kit to his mother. The whole clan stared in shock at the ice cold waters where Snowkit drowned. Brambleberry shook his head and stared at Hawkwing as she hung her head sadly.

Just another death for another day.
