"Bramblepaw, you need to duck faster!" Minnowtooth mewed, rolling his eyes as his apprentice was pinned down by Hawkpaw. He growled and shoved her off, shaking the dirt from his pelt and glaring at Hawkpaw. She gave him a smile and he turned away from her.
The tabby tom spotted his father and froze as he saw the scornful look in his blue eyes.
Blacktalon saw him lose the fight. Shame clawed at his pelt and he stared down at the ground as Minnowtooth instructed Leafpaw to try the new fighting technique. Brightpaw switched out with Hawkpaw and the brown apprentice padded up to the sulking tabby tom.
"Hey. You did good." She mewed, trying to cheer him up. He glared at her and growled angrily, lashing his tail.
"Not good enough. I don't need your pity! Just go away!" He hissed angrily. Hawkpaw flinched and stared at him with wide eyes before she lowered her head and padded away towards Rockpaw. Bramblepaw glared down at his paws and pricked his ear when he heard paws padding over to him. He looked up to see Birdpaw padding up to him and he looked back down at his paws.
"You know she's only trying to help you, Bramblepaw. We all see the way Blacktalon treats you. Hawkpaw just wants to show you that you don't have to prove yourself to him." She mewed. Bramblepaw glared at Hawkpaw as she cheered for Brightpaw to win the spar with Leafpaw.
"She doesn't know anything. Why can't she just leave me alone?! I hate her!" He hissed angrily, tearing at the grass with his paws. Birdpaw stared at him with wide amber eyes before she narrowed them and flicked her tail at him.
"You don't mean that. If you keep pushing her away like this, she'll stop caring about you altogether. I guarantee that one day, you'll be the one chasing after her." She mewed before she got up and padded away. Bramblepaw stared after her with narrowed amber eyes.
Just what was that supposed to mean?!
He watched his brother as the light brown tom was pinned down by Brightpaw, who stood over him triumphantly. Hawkpaw cheered for her and playfully butted her on the shoulder with her head. Bramblepaw looked away from her as her emerald eyes landed on him and turned away to pad back to camp.
As if, he thought bitterly.
