Ah, yes. another Sunday evening at Welton Academy. and a yet another round of texas hold em'. gambling was nothing new to the students at Welton and although it was a catholic school, they still filled it with reckless teenagers practically begging to empty out their trust funds.

The dead poets were no exception. Gerard Pitts had deducted the perfect way to win at poker and by god did it work. and no it was your usual mathematic equation or counting cards, it was a simple facial expression that would determine his outcome in the game. the eyebrow raise.

to him, it was surprising that most of the students there downright sucked ass at bluffing, seeing as the would almost always lie to their parents about their teachers and classes. but nonetheless, every student there couldn't help but react at their cards.

it seemed completely involuntary and surprisingly no one else noticed. or after acted upon it. and although it was just a simple reaction, it made all the difference. you see, welton students always bluffed using their chips and not their head. so while they're going all in, our dear pitts was moving up the leader board.

enter y/n l/n. you were welton's newest student, just transferring this term. the last term, to be exact. so all you really had to do was pass a few classes and you were out of here. yet that didn't stop you from making an impact. within your first week, you had already glued thumbtacks to mr. mcallisters chair and had already 'deez nuts-ed' three other faculty members.

however, your impression was yet to be made with the students. hence, why you are here on a rainy sunday evening, with wagers on your mind. you walked over to the center table where some of the poets sat. "what are we playing today, boys?" you asked, exited to begin. "5-card draw," cameron answered, attempting to shuffle the cards. "good, good," you looked around the table taking in everyone's presence.

cameron was dealing, charlie was to the left of cameron, lighting a cigarette, stick was stacking his chips, neil perry was next to todd, who was anxiously bouncing his knee with his chair pulled slightly away from the rest of the group. " are they playing or...?" you asked, directing everyone's attention towards todd. todd looked up from his hands, looking around at the group. "no they're just here as neil's emotional support animal," pitts stated. neil smirked to himself.

"are we going to start this game or what?" charlie asked, taking a draw from his cigarette. cameron finished shuffling the cards and then pushed them towards pitts who then tapped on the top, signaling trust. cameron then started dealing out the cards, one by one, to each player. once everyone got their five cards, he set what was left of the deck down and waited for the game to begin.

you looked at your cards. you really didn't care what they had, for this round would start the bluff. you had 2 eights, a jack, a 10 and an ace. everybody started trading in their cards, and you decided to press play to you facade.

"wait, so-" you started, acting as if you had no idea what you were doing. "yes?" cameron answered annoyed. " does it count if i have the same color?"
"what?"
"does it count of i have the same color?"
"well what do you want to count?"

you shrugged and looked down at your cards. " let's just say i had a 10 and a jack that were an arrow and a clover. which means they were both black. would that get me any points?"

cameron shook his head on disappointment, pitts was trying not to get irritated, neil was smiling and charlie seemed like was really trying to figure it out himself. "no," pitts sighed, "that would not work. they have to be the same suite or all consecutive numbers or both. which means that, no, that pairing would not be valid." pitts finished.
