Living on the streets was not fun, but Alex made it bearable. Halloween had always been something for you and when you told Alex, he immediately suggested trick or treating.
'But we don't have costumes!'
'We'll dress up as homeless people!'
Sure, it was not a fool proof plan, but it was something. Acquiring a bucket by all legal means was not your biggest problem, no, that was all the angry stares you got from parents.
'Perhaps we shouldn't have gone to the high-end part of town.' You sighed looking at your near empty bucket.
'Perhaps people should not be this terrible,' Alex retorted as she huffed angrily, 'I will make sure we get a full bucket of candy.' She promised as she looked to the other side of the street.
'What are you planning?' You asked following her gaze. Oh it were these people, with their kids.
'Be ready to make a quick getaway.'

'Did you see their faces?' Alex laughed as she reached into the candy bucket. Your hands slightly brushed as you pulled your hand out, keeping the candy in your hand.
'You're being mean, they were little kids!' you smiled back, and Alex's smile grew wider seeing your face lit up.
'They were the kids of the people that refused to give us candy!' she shot back, 'The parents have enough candy for them, and now we have candy too!' You laughed and put the candy you were holding in your mouth.
'Well you kept your promise at least, this bucket is stuffed! And with all the good candy too!' Perhaps it was the sugar high you had, but the way Alex looked at you made blood go to your face.

'Okay, okay, suggestion: we are going to find a house with an open window and watch a horror movie through it.' You snorted as Alex rested her head on your shoulder.
'Or we could sit here, eat candy and scare little children?' Alex said and she reached into the bucket. Her soft hair tickled your bare neck and you shivered. You felt Alex shift as she grabbed the jacket she was sitting on.
'Put this on. You're cold.' She commanded.
'Like you care,' you said as you put the jacket over your shoulders.
'You're right, I don't.' Alex sat up again, giving you space to fully wear the jacket, 'But if you catch a cold, you'll be more insufferable, so this is just prevention of the worst.' As soon as you wore the jacket Alex gave you a look over, seeming to ponder.
'What? Surprised I look good?' You stuck out your tongue.
'Didn't think you could look any better actually, but you keep surprising me.' Alex said and sent you a wink. Before you could respond she changed into a cat and went to sit on your lap.
'You're a real douche for leaving me like this Alex. You know that, right?' your face felt once again warm as you pet cat Alex. The warmth that her little cat body was giving of being a comfort. Sure, this was not your ordinary Halloween, but you both were also not ordinary teens.
