"Aiden." The voice pulls me out of my dream as sunlight has begun to fill the room, "Aiiiidennn." My eyes slowly open revealing a way too enthusiastic Alex. I slowly groan, wincing at the sudden light of the room.

"What are you doing up? It's like 6 in the morning." My voice is low and scratchy as I glance at the clock.

"Aiden, Aiden my dear brother- there is no time like the now to conquer the world!"

"What the fuck are you talking about? Are you high?" I sit up rubbing my eyes.

"No, no- Aiden I have a plan! Only pure dedication can push us ahead!" He has so much energy for it being so early. I can't begin to even comprehend what he is talking about.

"Alex? Alex. Please explain what you're talking about like a normal person. You sound insane."

"Get dressed and I'll show you!" and then he's gone. Running out of the room quicker than I can process that he is gone. This kid is either too mentally stable or not at all and I'm leaning towards the latter. Throwing on a sweatshirt I mentally prepare for whatever Alex's insanity has planned and head downstairs to the living room where he's waiting.

"Time for an adventure dear brother," his smile grows as he holds up the car keys.

"Do you even have a license? and where are we going!?"

"I have a permit! It's fine."

"WHAT NO!" I whisper shout trying not to wake anyone else up, "I am not getting in a car with you Alex are you insane?"

"Come onnnn Aiden! It'll be fun!"

"You haven't even told me what we're doing!"

"Aiden it's the last day of summer, and you and I are making the most of it." he grabs my arm pulling me out towards the car as I give in and just laugh.

"If I die because you crash this car I will haunt you."

"Shut up you're gonna love this."

Alex is a terrible driver and if I don't die today I'm never getting in the car with him again.

"EYES ON THE ROAD!" I yell for the third time as he checks his phone, "are you kidding me! just let me have the phone I'll tell you where to turn!"

"No! I want it to be a surprise! Besides, I can do this. I'm a great driver!"

"No, no you are in fact a terrible driver and if we don't get pulled over for reckless driving there is a high probability you're gonna kill us!"

Alex just shakes his head at that and smiles, "You worry too much. Look! We're here!" He carelessly parks the car, thankfully not hitting anything since it's still so early. I look up at the worn-down building and smile.

"IHOP?" Alex looks back at me with a grin.

"Hell yea, always been my favorite." I just laugh and follow him inside to get a table.

We were quiet for a while after ordered, me too tired to try and make conversation at this ungodly hour, and Alex... who even knows what Alex was doing. He's been focused on his phone occasionally mumbling to himself, it's not till they bring out his ridiculously large breakfast that he puts his phone away. While Alex cleaned out the kitchen I just ordered a couple of pancakes knowing I wouldn't even finish that.

"So..." I started as he took a rather large bite of his food, "you gonna tell me where we're going, or do I have to guess?

"Oh-" he starts with a mouthful of food, "I'm not telling ya till we get there. I told you Aiden, I want it to be a surprise!"

"Ok... any particular reason that it's just you and me?"

"well, you're my favorite little brother so it wasn't too much of a choice!"

I shake my head still smiling despite myself, "I'm your only younger brother Alex."

He just shrugs, "my point still stands. wouldn't wanna spend our last day of freedom with anyone else. Besides, you deserve to have some fun. And I just happen to be the funest person I know! perfect solution!"

I eat more than I realize as we continue to talk. Both of us laughing and smiling the whole time, and as much as I want to hate this, as much as I run before I get too attached I know it's already too late.

Alex was right.

I love this.
