After we'd both finished breakfast I was dragged back into the death machine and we were off to whatever next stop Alex had planned. As we got farther and farther away from their small town my worry grew.
"Alex... does Jayden even know where we are?"
"You see..." he glances over at me and chuckles nervously, "not exactly?"
"So they don't even know we left!?"
"No, no! I'm not that dumb- I left a note," he smiles proudly as if that was some great idea.
"And what did you write on that note?!" I run a hand through my hair knowing this isn't gonna end well.
"Well... I said something about leaving?" he winces, "Ok yea I'm fucked when we get home. But, brother dearest, it's only 9:30, and I haven't gotten a call from anyone so I doubt he's up anyways!"
"How does that help?"
"I have no idea, but this is gonna be so much fun it'll be worth it!"
"I still don't even know what 'this' is Alex."
He scoffs turning his head once again to face me, "Have a little faith Aiden! We're almost there, look!" Turning my head I see that we are indeed coming up on a...
"Is that a Farris wheel?"
"Hell yeah, it is! Welcome to the County fair!" He turns into the small parking lot and pulls into an empty spot.
I've never been to a fair. Never been anywhere really. Never got to experience just being a kid.
"So....," I pause, " what are we doing here?"
"What do you mean!" He gives me a dumbfounded look as we get out of the car and start making our way towards the entrance, "It's a Fair- we're gonna ride as many rides as we can!"
"Right after we just ate?"
"That's part of the fun! First, one to throw up has to drive home!"
"Neither of us can legally drive! This is a terrible idea!"
"Exactly!" Alex looks way too proud to be joking. God this is gonna be the death of me.

The sun is high in the sky by the time we stumble off of our last ride, clutching our stomachs.
"Dude this is so fucking bad," Alex laughs, looking about as bad as I feel, "this was a terrible idea."
"I told you it was!" but despite my words, I'm smiling. For the first time in years, I feel like I can breathe. Just hanging out with Alex eases the weight on my shoulders. He hasn't pushed me to talk even though I can tell he wants to.
Alex smiles and throws an arm loosely around my shoulder, "You're having fun though, and that's all that matters." I smile back and lean into his side, feeling safe.
"Yeah, this has been really great Alex- thanks."
"Anything for you Aiden," His phone buzzes and he frowns before checking the message and grimacing, "Ah looks like Jayden found my note..."
"Just now? It's been like 5 hours?"
"Well, I may have made a scavenger hunt for it to buy us some time..."
"ALEX!" I can't contain my laughter, "when did you even have the time to do this? Do you ever sleep?"
"Nope! Now let's get going before I'm grounded for the rest of my life!"
