1 week. About 1 week since school has started. 5 whole days of torture. It's exhausting having to put on a happy face for everyone. Trying to stick to this "normal teenage Julie" act is nothing but stressful. I try my best to stick to the good side. To think of the joyful things, but it's hard. It almost as if there are no joyful things.
It's Saturday morning. I finally get some sort of a break. At least till my dad's up. I just relax till I find myself glancing up at my dream box. I shut my eyes as I take a deep breath. I encourage myself to open it. I roughly look around until this one song catches my eye.
Perfect Harmony
Memories of Luke just come flooding in. Of course followed my grief. I use all my strength to keep it together. I never got to show him this song. Or express my feeling at all for that matter. It's obvious now my feeling towards him.
We say we're friends, we play pretend, you're more to me, we're everything
Yep. That pretty much sums it up. We were able to grow so close while writing music. It's funny but, while writing you get to know so much about some one. While growing trust as you put yourself into lyrics. Perfect Harmony tho. That song was written about the relationship between only us two. However, I'm the only one with the knowledge of it.
You set me free, you and me together we're more than chemistry.
I bring the paper up to my chest. *sigh*
I feel a quick sudden vibration. I pull my phone out from under the covers to reveal a text from Flynn.
Flynn: Can you hangout??😛👉👈
I was really wanted this day to myself.... Ya know what, this will be good for me. A great way of getting my mind off things. Plus hanging with Flynn is always a party.
Julie: Let me ask 😊😊😊
An extra smiley face just for her :)
I speed down the stairs and greet my dad in the kitchen. He's aside Carlos, who's gobbling down some cold cereal.
"Hey pap, could I maybe hang out at Flynn's today," I politely plead.
He gives a warm smile, "That sounds like fun, go for it."
"Thank you," I reply with a smile.
I revert back to my room to soon grasp my phone.
Julie: My dad's all good with it! What time you thinking?
Flynn: YAYA!!!!!!!! Does 1:30 work??????
Julie: That should be good, thanks!
I leave my phone at that, and bounce off my bed to the closet. I examine my clothes closely undecided on what I want to wear. It wasn't long till the chest beside my bed catches my eye. The one with mom's clothes. I take another quick glance inside my closet before making my way over to the end of my bed. I kneel down beside the brown chest and lightly brush my hand over the top of it. It has the texture of a weaved basket. The next thing I touch is the cold metal sunflower latch as I open up the chest. It is full of clothes that come familiar and those that do not. Suddenly the sunlight reflects onto my face, leading me to the sparkly sequins surrounding the Sunset Curve logo atop a plain white t-shirt.
I grab it. I need to get over this pain whether I like it or not.
To go with it I grab a pair of plain ripped jeans along with a light blue puffy jacket. Once dressed I simply pull my hair back into a low ponytail, and to top it all off I add a colorful hat from the top shelf of my closet. I check my clock to see that it has just hit 11:00. Good. I get 2 and a half hours to myself today.
~2 and a half hours later 😋~
"AH! There she is!" Flynn screamed while holding me in a tight squeeze.
"Hey," I said while laughing.
"So I have got a whole Girl's Party planned out for us, we will start by painting each others nails, braiding beads in each other's hair and maybe even a movie with popcorn," She exclaimed while loaded with excitement.
"Wow Flynn, aha that sounds like fun," I said with I smile. Following that, Flynn immediately grabbed my wrist and brought me inside.
...
As Flynn was applying purple nail polish to my fingertips, I got this rare feeling of happiness. I've missed this. Being able to just enjoy myself, hang with my best friend, and to just take my mind off of all the wrong things in my life.
It wasn't until Flynn was braiding my hair that I got the text. My phone was up on Flynn's dresser while I was on the floor.
"Oh- Flynn could you grab that?" I ask.
"Yeah sure" she gets up at takes it from the top of the wooden dresser. She takes a quick glance and immediately gasps.
"What is it?" I question with concern.
All she does is smirk at me followed by a quick squeal.
"Oh my gosh what?" I grab my phone out form her grasp before she can pull away.
It's a text from Nick.
Nick: Hey Molina
Flynn gives me a big smile, "Jules you gotta text back!"
"Well yeah of course," I examine the text with confusion.
Julie: Hey
"Wait ask him what he's doing you need to flow this conversation," Flynn cries.
Julie: Hey what's up
Nick: Just wondering if you would still pass me up on that date?
"Omg Julie!" Flynn is now freaking out.
I'm confused, Flynn knows about Luke. Why would she act like this? She knows all the feelings I ever had for Nick are now gone.
"Fly-," I start until Flynn snatches the phone from my hand. She begins to type something. "Flynn what are you doing?"
"Telling Nick how bad you want to go on a date with him," she responds.
"Flynn you know I don't!" I'm able to get my phone back
Julie: I would actually love that, just give me the date and time!😁
"Flynn what are you doing!" I cry
"Julie, this is a great way to get back into the routine. I know it's hard but it's good for you. Just think, I nice relationship with Nick would be a great way to boost your happiness. Get yourself back into the ways things used to be,"
"I don't know Flynn," I answered. She did make a good point. I do need to do things that are beneficial towards me. I don't know. Maybe she's right. Besides, Luke's gone. What's the point of grieving on anyway. I have to move on sooner than later.
I give a sigh. "I guess you're right," I assure her.
She smiles, "I knew you'd come around." She grabs my phone once again and continues the conversation.
Nick: Great! :) Does next Friday around 6:30 work for you?!?!?!?
I guess now I'm going on a date with Nick. For some reason Luke kept entering my mind the entire rest of the day.
