As you approached the patio doors, where Levi was also stood, a distant murmur carried on the wind reached your ears. It was fearful and desperate. Fast. And concerned.
"They are scared," Levi stated.
"I take it they did not find anything?" You asked. It was quite a redundant question, you already knew the answer.
"No, only the body it left behind," Levi responded.
You found yourself in a strange situation, willing to step back into danger, despite having narrowly avoided it a few minutes beforehand. Was it a wise choice?
"Do you think we can actually help them?" You asked, glancing at Levi beside you.
He didn't return your glance. "It is certainly possible, Y/N."
"I feel as if it is my duty to help them," you found yourself saying rather suddenly. Levi's head turned slightly, the moonlight resting gently on his face. "I have protection up here, and they do not. And further, no one else knows about you, and you seem to be the only one who can help us here, otherwise we are all just sitting here waiting to be pounced upon."
"They are quite a mystery even to us," he replied, his eyes moving back to gaze out the doors. "Are you ready to go then, Lady Y/N?"
You were doing it, stepping back out into the danger. Deep down, you knew this wasn't a wise choice, you could rather easily refuse and spend your nights tucked away in bed with your book and crackling fireplace. But you knew this was the right choice, and the right choice would be the one you would always pick.
In the blink of an eye, you were flitting through the trees at an incredible speed. Where ever you were going, you knew that you would end up in a state. The winds rushing through your hair were bound to morph it into a bird's nest and you had already felt a few insects hit your face. At least it wouldn't be for much longer...or so you hoped.
Take it all in for a moment.
The speed at which you were going at was tremendous and faster than anything you had experienced on a horse. You could feel each thud as Levi raced across the land, and yet you couldn't hear him breathing. That was odd. You would certainly be panting for air if you had to race this fast. But perhaps it was something unique to vampires?
As fast as you had set off, you had come to a stop. It took you by surprise. From the second you had slid off Levi's back, you had crumbled to the floor as the world slowed down to its rightful speed.
A hand slid around your waist and caught you just as you reached the ground. Levi pulled you back up to your feet. You caught his eyes glance quickly at your patched wound before he stated, "you should really be more careful, Lady Y/N."
A dizzy smile grew on your face, but before you could respond, you heard a voice shout through the darkness, and it was one that caught Levi's attention:
"Prince Levi! Is that you?"
A figure grew closer to the two of you. A petite feminine figure, with mousey brown hair and oaken eyes. She wore a black suit, similar to Levi's, but more form-fitting. She was moving steadily towards the two of you, but stopped in her tracks. Her eyes fixed to you, occasionally darting down to look at the hand still on your waist.
"A human..."
"Yes, Petra. This is Lady Y/N." Levi pulled his hand away and pulled out the cloth from his pocket, the one that was stained with your blood. "She is here under my protection to discuss the recent attacks. Please, go clean this." He tossed the cloth towards the woman, Petra, and she effortlessly caught it. "Are the others around?"
"Yes, sir," she nodded. "Prince Erwin I believe is in his study, I believe Mike is with some of our new hunters, and I do not know Princess Hanji's whereabouts."
"She will find us soon enough," you heard Levi mutter under his breath.
It seemed as if Petra heard it too as a small smile formed on her lips. The smile grew slightly and she spoke, "welcome, Lady Y/N."
She turned and walked back from where she came. Your eyes had adjusted ever so slightly and now you could see what lay ahead of you. A grand castle, gothic in style, that towered above you. Petra had walked through the main gates down a cobbled path that led to the entrance doors. It was definitely the grandest castle that you had ever seen; it took your breath away!
The hand returned around your waist. A little pressure was added as Levi guided you down the same path towards the same grand doors.
The entrance hall made you feel like a grain of salt in the ocean, enveloped by the structure surrounding you.
On the floor lay a gorgeous deep red rug, trimmed with golden thread, laying over a smooth dark wooden floor. It stretched all the way to the staircase that lay before you and ran up the steps. The entrance hall itself felt rather empty; back home, the entrance hall was full of paintings, plants and sculptures to make the place feel more homely and inviting. Here, you were lucky to see a few plants and people - all of which who's eyes were on you.
"Pay them no mind, Y/N," Levi said softly, it was comforting until he spoke his next words. "Once we have you dressed up and clean, they will be staring for all the right reasons."
Did you really look that bad?
He guided you to a room up the stairs and down a long corridor that strangely didn't have many doors coming from it. He turned into one of these rooms and ushered you into what you could only assume was his room. Each thing seemed to have a place in the room, placed with a purpose and nothing seemed to be out of order.
"I will be back in a few minutes," he said, "I need to go fetch someone." He closed the door behind him rather suddenly, making you alone.
You wandered over to a mirror and frowned at your appearance. It wasn't looking good. You pulled slightly at your hair, trying to detangle it but realised you weren't getting anywhere with it. You huffed in annoyance and gave up on your hair, deciding to focus on other parts of your appearance instead. The bandage on your leg was looking alright. Some blood had seeped through to the bandage, but that meant it was working, right? In the end, you gave up on the whole of your appearance and moved more around the room.
A bookshelf caught your eye this time. It was tucked close by the desk. As you drew closer, you could see that all the books were organised alphabetically. One in particular drew your attention; Dracula. You let out a little laugh to yourself as you plucked it from the shelf, before sitting down at the desk to continue reading where you left, waiting for Levi to return.
