Multiple screams broke out and echoed within the room. After that, no one moved nor did anyone spoke. After seconds, or even minutes of complete silence, shuffling could be heard. A blinding ray of light emerged from the darkness.
Elizabeth's eyes scanned the darkness to find the source of the light. After a second or two, she was able to track down where it came from. The light had emitted... from a phone? Kai was holding the phone, which was emitting an extremely dim light.
"Is everyone alright?" they called out, loud enough for everyone to hear. But before anyone could answer or say anything, a familiar voice came from the speakers.
"No thank you Kai, no lights, torches or any kind of flashlights while the lights are out, well except for lanterns but that's a talk for another time. Normally you would get instantly killed for doing that but since this is a preview of what it's like when the lights are out, you're lucky and will not be killed. However, you still have to turn the flashlight off. Now."
"Well what if I don't?" queried Kai, still holding the phone.
"Well do you want to die?"
Kai shook their head, "Obviously not,"
"I thought so, now turn the flashlight off."
Kai obeyed and turned off their phone's flashlight. Now the room was completely pitch black again. However, after a few minutes, the lights turned back on. It took Elizabeth a few moments for her eyes to adjust to the glaring light.
"What you experienced right there is a preview of the lights flickering off. Please, remember not to use any flashlight or torch when the lights flicker off unless it is the lantern given in game. Anyways, please go to your selected room and in there, you will find a box. The box will be filled with a journal and notepad for you to write anything you want in and a slip of paper which will tell you what your role is. Alright, so long my friends, and remember, the lights will flicker out at 2AM every night and the murderer will strike then. Good luck!"
Everyone reluctantly walked to their selected room. Elizabeth walked through the maze of corridors and hallways. Eventually, she found the room with her name on. Etched in fancy writing, it read her name, "Elizabeth".
She opened the door and went inside. Her eyes scanned the room. There was a bed in the corner, and beside it was a desk with a black box on top. There was also another door which she assume leads to the bathroom.
The box was collecting a layer dust, which made Elizabeth wonder of it had been here for a very long time. She carefully brushed the dust off the box and onto the floor and inspected the box. The box was beautifully decorated; rose quartz, garnet and agate were embroidered onto the black leather. She carefully lifted up the lid of the box. Inside, like the speaker said, was a journal, notepad and slip of paper. She took the slip of paper and read the cursive lettering.
Your role is: SURVIVOR.
You are part of the GOOD TEAM. Your goal is to survive and find out who the murderer is. You have no special abilities.
She sighed in relief as she read that. Elizabeth was fine with any role other than being the murderer. She put the piece of paper down and picked up the journal. The journal was made of a brown leather material and had many pages. However, there was one slight problem. She didn't have a pen or pencil. She decided to handle that problem later and went out of her room to talk to or make friends with the other players. However, before she could get to the main room, the lights flickered and turned off; leaving her in the pitch-dark.
Without hesitation, Elizabeth quickly retreated to her room. As her eyes slowly adjusted to the dark, she decided to get some sleep. She quietly walked to the bed located in the corner of the room and fell into a deep slumber.
